I am confused as to how[edit]

I am confused as to how there can be no volumes 1-4. If they don't exist, why didn't we just call volume 5 volume 1? Apofisu 20:08, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The court has had cases prior to 1801 (Chisholm v. Georgia, for example), so those volumes do exist, but the wikipages for them just haven't been created yet.--Chaser T 06:14, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Note, however, that many of the cases in volumes 1-4 (Dallas's reporter) were state and local cases in Philadelphia, as Dallas covered all the courts there. (There were no Supreme Court cases in volume 1 at all.) The non-Supreme Court links should probably be removed at some point. 216.165.3.50 04:19, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking that it might be useful to have links for each case to the case itself on findlaw. --Cdogsimmons 21:49, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FindLaw links could be provided along, however, it should be noted that FindLaw does not contain volumes 1-149, only from 150-544 (and any recent cases). So only cases after volume 149 would have working links. Cheers. --MZMcBride 20:25, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If anyone's bored enough to do this[edit]

I'm thinking that there must be a lot of case articles that this list doesn't link to correctly because of minor deviations in the case name (abbreviations, etc.). If someone has some time on their hands they could just go through the list and do a google search to see if there are articles and create redirect links. Just something to do if you're bored that needs doing.--Cdogsimmons 20:47, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've also noticed that these lists would work a lot better if they linked back to the main page and to the prior and subsequent volumes. It's a big project but probably worth doing. --Cdogsimmons 19:47, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move proposal[edit]

I'd like to move this from "List of United States Supreme Court cases" to "Lists of United States Supreme Court cases by volume". The reason I want to move it is that the current title is the former location of Lists of United States Supreme Court cases, so many pages link here that shouldn't, like Separation of powers, the first result. Frankly, many of those links probably date from the era when all SCOTUS cases were on the same page (which they still are, in a sense, although again at a bad title), so it would be good to check those links to ensure they're still appropriate. But in any case, titling this "Lists...by volume" is similar to our "...by court" lists, consistent with the apparent plural convention, and gives a bit more information for whoever is following a link here. Thoughts?--chaser - t 23:38, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds perfectly reasonable. --MZMcBride (talk) 00:26, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This page used to be called the Complete List of United States Supreme Court cases but it was moved to its current location. I agree that there's confusion so I think another move is in order. I concur with MZMcBride.--Cdogsimmons (talk) 21:50, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a huge job[edit]

Wow there is an incredible amount of red links in these volumes. Looks like I have my work cut out for the next 150 years. --Ashershow1talk 21:09, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed and it's nice to have the red links ready, so that other articles already know what title to link and we don't end up with inconsistent links. Nemo 18:47, 14 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
