V/Line[edit]

V/Line shouldn't be on this list. It functions overwhelmingly as regional rail and in fact sometimes more like inter-city rail, which is distinct from commuter rail. It'd be like including NSW TrainLink on this list. --Criticalthinker (talk) 09:58, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Length[edit]

Where do the length numbers come from? Are they route or track distances? Or something else? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.228.3.204 (talk) 03:49, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Name change[edit]

Distinguishing between commuter and non-commuter rail doesn't make much sense to me in an Australian context. I can't find much at all written on this or using this type of terminology outside of Wikipedia, wouldn't it make more sense if this article was just a list of urban rail systems in Australia? Happy to hear dissenting views. Gracchus250 (talk) 07:45, 12 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've been having similar thoughts. At the moment, without any definition of discussion of terminology, presenting the information in this way is verging on OR. I suggest we try and find some sources for definitions here before doing a requested move to get some other opinions. Triptothecottage (talk) 01:55, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of Sydney Metro/criteria for inclusion[edit]

@Botswanaaaa: It would be far preferable if we discuss your removal of Sydney Metro from the list here rather than engaging in an edit war. At the moment, its inclusion in the list is based on categories used by industry bodies I have presented in the Definitions section. I am quite happy to use alternative/better definitions, as long as reliable sources exist to support them.

Alternatively, it may be necessary to propose this page for deletion; if a reliable categorisation can't be established we should ask what purpose the page is serving except WP:CRUFT. All the information here is readily available in other articles.

Or, come to think of it, move this page to "Urban heavy rail in Australia", which would enable us to follow the sources accurately.
