Iker Casillas[edit]

If I am not wrong, Casillas played 17 matches (not 15) in World Cups : 5 in 2012, 3 in 2006, 7 in 2010 and 2 in 2014. Could someone validate and modify this ? Aonikenk (talk) 14:47, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Erik Nilsson[edit]

The swedish midfielder have the same history of suiss Bickel: They played WC before and after World Cup. If somebody wants to edit... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Nilsson — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.244.122.167 (talk) 03:57, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Player bolding[edit]

Is this based on whether they still play international or football in general? WDM10 (talk) 19:38, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind I missed the key... WDM10 (talk) 01:07, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

team squad[edit]

the only logical use of squad in reference to a national team is if there are designated specialty teams within that national team otherwise a squad is a team and is redundant. That is not a good faith effort but a logical action. And for whatever reason there are references to "first squad" in WP, so if these articles are written by those familiar with the content then there must be more than one squd within a national team?2603:8000:D300:D0F:6532:152A:4FC5:D1EF (talk) 12:35, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Luka Modric[edit]

Why does it say Luka Modric didn't play at the 2010 World Cup, he was there and scored if the info in his page is correct? 184.149.12.22 (talk) 17:30, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! It's because Croatia hadn't qualified for the finals of the 2010 World Cup. This list of players is only about appearances in the finals of a World Cup tournament, the qualifiers aren't included, which is where Luka Modrić had scored. Query on page title and content[edit]

I have just come across this page, the title suggests that any 'multiple FIFA World cup' player would qualify, but then out of nowhere the lead states it has to be 'more than four', there isn't a justification for this in terms of the entry and this seems to have been a journalistic decision on behalf of an editor in some point in the history of the page. Either the page needs to be re-titled or it needs to be be updated to actually list all players that have appeared at multiple (2 or more) world cups. Appearing in 2 or 3 World Cups is still a pretty remarkable feat and should be captured in the encyclopedia. Mountaincirquetalk 11:44, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I totally agree... I also just came across this page and find what you explain here odd; indeed, either the title must be changed to say "in at least four FIFA World Cups" instead of "in multiple FIFA World Cups" or the list must be expanded to include all the players who "appeared" (were part of the squad selections) in at least two FIFA World Cups. Kind regards, Lorry Gundersen (talk) 00:01, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I tried being WP:BOLD and making this change but @Injasu: decided to revert. Maybe we can discuss the best idea for the page. As it stands there is zero justification for the lead stating that the page covers 'those with four or more' appearances. As an additional point to raise, the word 'appearance' in football is usually used to denote when a player has played, not just been included in a squad. So that is another misleading factor in the design of the article, many of the player listed did not 'appear' at all in four or more World Cups, they were included in four or five World Cup squads. Why should a player that has been in say three World Cup squads and played in all three not be listed here, but a player that has been named four times in squads and played once is? Mountaincirquetalk 13:11, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But the Matches section has some played 3 tournaments so does not really add up. Injasu (talk) 13:55, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The user above, Injasu, has been banned for sockpuppetry. This page needs some heavy updates. I would suggest initially that the table of appearances is moved up, to take precedence. Mountaincirquetalk 14:42, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

rename artile and + table with most matches as captain[edit]

What do you think to hange article in few ways:

1Most matches at the lead instead "most tournaments played at the lead"

2table of football players who played most mathes as captain

3change name of the aricle to "Football players with mot matches at FIFA World Cup"

Franky van der Elst[edit]

I removed Franky van der Elst from the list. He only did 14 matches. Despite this old FIFA match report he was not substituted in the 89th minute in the groupstage game against Paraguay. There is video evidence:[1]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-wzFgxB_B8?t=5593 At 1:33:14 one can clearly see that his namesake Leo with shirt-no. 15 comes on the pitch.
