General Information[edit]

This list of museums in the state was separated from List of museums in the United States on January 07, 2008. Please see List of museums in the United States for all history prior to that date.

Feel free to include Template:Infobox Museum when adding or editing articles on individual museums. Noroton (talk) 00:59, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion criteria[edit]

In February 2008 at Talk:List of museums in the United States, a consensus was reached on this statement on what kind of institutions to include on state museum-list articles:

Historic houses or halls of fame may be listed if they function as or include public museums -- see Biltmore Estate, Plumb House, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Baseball Hall of Fame for examples. Art galleries that function primarily to sell art should not be listed, but public art museums that use "gallery" as part of their name may be listed. Nature centers and botanical gardens may be listed only if they contain historical or educational exhibits in a museum format.

Also inappropriate for this list are planetariums, aquaria and zoos, which have their own lists. Please follow these criteria when considering additional items for this list, or suggest changes at Talk:List of museums in the United States. Keep in mind there are lists for institutions similar to museums, as noted in the See also section of this article. Noroton (talk) 00:59, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spudz Museum[edit]

Does this museum actually exist? Or is this some vandal? lavacano201014 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Lavacano201014 for user talk page) 14:58, 26 October 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lavacano201014 (talkcontribs) [reply]

I removed the museum. I could not find any mention of it elsewhere, so I assume it was a vandal listing. Jllm06 (talk) 17:49, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Issues[edit]

1) Listed museums are heavily redlinked. It's not normal to list items that are not shown to be notable; these museums have neither reliable independent sources nor articles of their own, so what are they doing here.

2) There's heavy overlinking of placenames, e.g. Boise (presumably somewhat well known to Idaho people) is linked many times, as are names of counties and regions.

3) The "Website" column directly embeds museums' web addresses in the table.

4) The list itself is totally uncited; the article has just 3 refs, one for the existence of regions, the other two for the two defunct museums. Giving the dead proper citations when the living get none is a new one on me.

This list is poorly formed and at present offers almost no evidence of notability. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:02, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dead links and re-directs[edit]

There were a lot of dead links and links needing to be redirected, so I took care of those. There was an external link that led to a site labeled "Dangerous!". In case you don't know what that means, it's a site that could potentially install viruses or malware on your computer and has something seriously wrong with it, so I took out that and replaced it with the site it was supposed to go to. Anyways, all the links are cleaned up. Hooray! -SquirrelB8
