DoTerra Essential Oils as an MLM

I believe DoTerra essential oils should be added to the list as it is a MLM. Here is their main site http://www.doterra.com/us/. Their compensation plan can be found here: http://www.doterra.com/us/companyCompensationPlan.php It shows their "Levels"

This is not a list of MLM companies, it is a list of Wikipedia articles about MLM companies. Since there is no article about DoTerra (at least none that I could find) it does not belong on this list. Grayfell (talk) 21:33, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

The claim that doTerra is MLM is unsourced. There needs to be a reliable reference which claims or shows that doTerra is MLM. The link Lisamarie333 provides above is dead. (This is almost a WP:BLP-type concern, as MLM can be considered derogatory.) Argyriou (talk) 19:14, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Total Quality Logistics does have an article, but it is not clear that it's a MLM company. How could a Third-party logistics be a multi-level marketing company, anyway? Grayfell (talk) 07:43, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Looking at TQL's website, there's no hint that it's MLM. In theory, it could be, as TQL is a broker, and doesn't actually own any trucks; but in practice, there's nothing on their website that indicates it's not a regular corporation with regular employees. Argyriou (talk) 22:38, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

"direct selling"

I propose we remove direct selling from the article lead where synonyms for MLM are given. The first reference doesn't appear to be about MLMs in general, but mentions them as a form of direct selling. (I can't access a full text to verify.) The second reference is dead, and the possibly equivalent pages at the FTC, The telltale signs of a pyramid scheme Staff Advisory Opinion - Pyramid Scheme Analysis don't use the words "direct selling" to refer to MLMs or pyramid schemes. MLM seems to be a subset of direct selling, so most uses of direct selling are not about MLM. Argyriou (talk) 22:53, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

The FTC link can be seen as an archive[2] (I will update the ref accordingly) and that reference does specifically say that direct selling is sometimes used to mean MLM. Per direct selling: "direct selling often, but not always, uses multi-level marketing..." I think the lead should be rephrased to more clearly explain the close link, but I don't think the term should be removed. Although it is a subset, it's by far the largest subset. The vast majority (90%+) of members of the U.S. Direct Selling Association use MLM, for example, so as a matter of clarity it should be mentioned. Grayfell (talk) 20:52, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Looking at the Direct Selling Association article, I'm convinced that people do misuse the words often enough to mean MLM that it should remain in the lead, but there should be more explanation, and/or a better reference - one which explains that the DSA is mostly about MLM. The term direct selling should not be used in the lead. Direct selling encompasses many forms of selling aside from MLM, and the DSA is not the arbiter of what constitutes direct selling; they have merely co-opted the term to serve their MLM base. If anyone equates direct selling with MLM, they do so wrongly. WP should not reinforce the error. Rhode Island Red (talk) 22:08, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

The DSA's name is in itself misleading since the organization represents only a minuscule fraction of the direct selling industry -- i.e., almost exclusively MLMs. A more appropriate name for the DSA would be the "Multi-level Marketing Association".
