Mire? ![edit]

I realise that the EEA has translated "Moorlandschaften" as "mire landscapes". But mire (in Wiktionary) does not usually have this meaning. Please add a few words of introduction to explain what is meant by mire in this context - probably marsh or wetland would be better terms. -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 17:31, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The name of the inventory is generally translated as "Inventory of Mire Landscapes", not just by EEA. "Mire" is used in this context (The Swiss Mire Monitoring Programme, International Mire Conservation Group), even if a better term may be available. "Wetland" is too general, as there is also, e.g. an inventory of alluvial zones. For an overview of Swiss wetland inventories in 2002, see [1].
I will eventually write an introduction to the list and possibly rename it to Inventory of Mire Landscapes (Switzerland). -- User:Docu
