Name[edit]

Should this not be named 'List of massacres in the Republic of Ireland, as it does not include massacres in all of Ireland, as per Wikipedia's naming guidelines regarding Ireland?

Rathlin Island should not be here, because it is in what is today Northern Ireland. Innisfree58 (talk) 02:32, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What is the reasoning behind excluding Northern Ireland massacres from this page? Most other Wikipedia articles deal with Ireland as an island, especially when dealing with it in a historic sense, which this clearly is. Additionally, the Kingsmill Massacre page links here, implying that all-Ireland massacres would be listed here. Either instead of or as well as on the Massacres in the United Kingdom page, or else have a GB massacres, ROI massacres and NI massaacres page. 86.42.253.252 (talk) 22:54, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Northern Ireland massacres are included. But what is excluded is massacres of soldiers by terrorists - such as the Warrenpoint massacre - or the massacre of Lord Mountbatten and his party.Royalcourtier (talk) 05:27, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

1979 bombings[edit]

Why does this not include the 1979 IRA bombings of the Parachute Regiment and Mountbatten?Royalcourtier (talk) 00:27, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Warrenpoint ambush now included - no reason not to. Jim Michael (talk) 16:05, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion of related redirects[edit]

I have nominated List of massacres in the United Kingdom and List of massacres in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, both of which currently redirect to List of massacres in Great Britain but which overlap with the scope of this page, for discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2021 March 12#List of massacres in the United Kingdom. Please leave your comments there to keep discussion in one place. Thryduulf (talk) 05:21, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
