Copyright problem[edit]

This is a copy+paste from the SAHRA database. I'm not sure which of the search options at the SAHRA Home Page was used to create the list, but this is the sample entry for "Old Magistrates Office, Church Street, Boksburg", the third entry in the list. It's a clear copy+paste, even truncating the text partway through a word. The SAHRA terms of use say "Users may not copy information in this website for commercial use", so it is not suitable for Wikipedia. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:21, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John,
I received this information in a spreadsheet from volunteers of Wikimedia South Africa and understood there was sufficient authorization. I'll send them an email pointing to your question. effeietsanders 11:34, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey John, you're right, the database was sent to us by the SAHRA. Should be no problem, as the list has been gazetted; but I'm doublechecking with them at the moment. MADe (talk) 21:02, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
SAHRA either need to update their "disclaimer" page or they need to email the Foundation to confirm that they are releasing their data under CC-BY-SA and GDFL. See WP:IOWN for the details. They need to understand that these licenses allow commercial re-use. People can and do try to make money by re-publishing Wikipedia articles for profit. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:26, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey John, you are refering to the "old" website (hence the use of 196.35.231.29). The new website clearly shows it is released under CC-BY-SA (logo on bottom, right) MADe (talk) 20:24, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's a relief! I must have clicked the second external link on the South African Heritage Resources Agency page. I'll mark this as resolved. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:04, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
