Territorial Governors[edit]

This page is missing three territorial governors by presidential appointment - Robert Lucas (1838-1841), John Chambers (1841-1845), and James Clarke (1845-1846). [1] --Tim4christ17 talk 07:37, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's because they're still on List of Governors of Iowa Territory which hasn't been merged yet. :) --Golbez 08:34, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My bad - somehow I didn't notice that article. --Tim4christ17 talk 08:38, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lt. Gov. #[edit]

If no one objects, I'd like to replace the current term # with Lt. Gov. #, as it seems to be more relevant to a list like this. This is the format I used for es.wiki's article; you can see it at es:Gobernador de Iowa. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 22:47, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing no objections, it is  Done. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 03:45, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Living former governors[edit]

The living former governors section was removed, as noted at the featured list nomination. I have reinstated that section, as it is fairly essential to such a list as with the List of Presidents of the United States. Perhaps some of you don't care, but an easy reference is very handy for those of us who actually live in the state. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 00:48, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As a semi-proud resident of Cedar Rapids, I'm going to choose to take ever-so-minor offense at your last statement. :)
So, what utility does it provide? When do you need to know which governors are still alive, and who was the last one to die? It seems like an easy crossreferencing between the categories of living people and the governors of Iowa. --Golbez (talk) 21:42, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So I'm not the only one... Well, then.  :)
It's just one of those things that people like to know. Granted, you don't see a lot of magazines with pictures of the living former governors on them like you do Presidents, but that's a function of the audience of the magazine (national, not local). You do see the former governors trotted out at political functions, dedication events, etc. because it provides a sense of connectedness to the past. Or maybe it's just me. But I've used the list to find out the "status" of former governors in the past and suspect it would be useful to others. (Finally, perhaps feature inclusion could be discussed centrally somewhere? It seems odd to discuss this article-by-article when most of the reasons will be universal for POTUS and each state list.) – Philosopher Let us reason together. 00:02, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there's the U.S. governors Wikiproject linked above, but it's pretty dead. And I created the format for the lists that have gotten featured, which a few others have used and adaptations have flowed back and forth between us all. So I've kind of been a one-man wikiproject for these lists. --Golbez (talk) 19:29, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I figured as much - I've got a corner of the wiki that was created mostly as a one-man project a few years back, as well. (Though various users have taken over improving/expanding quite a few of them, thankfully!). If there's no input from other users ... *sigh* perhaps a notice at Talk:List of Presidents of the United States and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States governors? – Philosopher Let us reason together. 19:50, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
