cities?[edit]

Would it be reasonable for me add the specific city after each golf course? --MatthewUND(talk) 01:09, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think that'd make it easier to transfer between the two. --AlexWCovington (talk) 01:36, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I was thinking. That way, when we merge some golf courses into their city articles, we can just remove the wikilink from the golf course itself. --MatthewUND(talk) 02:18, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Articles to merge[edit]

Since we are trying to figure out which courses should be merged with their city articles and which should get to keep their own articles, I've come up with a list of courses that I think should be merged with their city articles. I'm sure we could find other courses that should be merged too, but this would at least be a start. Let me know what you think about merging the following courses:

  • Edgewater Country Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Ellendale Country Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Fair Oakes Golf Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Harvey Country Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Hettinger Country Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Hillcrest Country Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • LaMoure Memorial Golf Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Memorial Park Country Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Napoleon Country Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Star City Golf Course (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Tioga Golf and Country Club (9 hole) (MERGED)
  • Watford City Golf Club (9 hole) (MERGED)

As you can see, all of these courses are 9 holes and I don't think any are particularly notable or unusual. Any opinions? --MatthewUND(talk) 23:34, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OTOH, as a list, red links could be added for others not yet on this list, with the red link removed after it is mentioned in the article for the town or created as a separate article. For example, you could incorporate all of them listed on the ND Tourism site at http://www.ndtourism.com/secondary/viewArticle.asp?ID=104 many of which are not in the list now. I have now merged all of the articles that I mentioned in the above list. There may be some more courses that we could merge with the respective city article. I believe there are only six remaining articles for nine-hole courses. It seems to me that we should be able to keep any articles relating to 18-hole courses for the time being, but we should look critically at articles about 9-hole courses. --MatthewUND(talk) 10:12, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keep the article[edit]

  • Keep – Per Wikipedia is not a directory, the article is appropriate, as the article has an organized focus and is not, per Wikipedia directory guidelines, like "Lists or repositories of loosely associated topics". The article can also serve to promote the creation of new articles for notable golf courses. Northamerica1000 (talk) 01:31, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – The only way to establish notability for an article about 9-hole golf courses is to research them to establish notability or lack thereof. The disqualification of articles based upon the number of holes a golf course has is illogical, and isn't congruent with Wikipedia guidelines regarding notability. Article has been included in Wikipedia[edit]

The article was deemed worthy for inclusion in Wikipedia: the result of the AfD was to keep it, because it's functional and appropriate as a Wikipedia article per Wikipedia notability guidelines, and its inclusion is congruent with building Wikipedia.
