Mayoral elections[edit]

Though it would be cool if someone made mayoral election articles, they all seem to be re-directs to the general election page. Given this, I propose we remove the mayoral election links from the bottom table Orser67 (talk) 06:43, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the info you are talking about. Thanks. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 08:19, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Season link[edit]

@Frietjes: Why the use of {{Season link}} instead of #ifexist? I'm not familiar with Season link, so can you please explain how it works better here? —GoldRingChip 17:47, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

GoldRingChip, it's basically the same idea, but it adds tracking when the primary link exists so the logic can be simplified. The use of "#ifexist:" is relatively expensive (e.g., you cannot have more than about 500 on a page) so removing #ifexist: where it's not needed is desirable. we could also use {{alternative links}} (which doesn't have tracking). for other areas where this is used for this purpose, see {{cfb link}} and {{cbb link}}. in the cases of {{cfb link}} and {{cfb link}} there is a bot that replaces the templates when it's possible to do so. my plan was to have the bot take care of {{season link}} as well. the fact that List of elections in the United States is in Category:Excessive uses of season link shows me that at least one can be simplified. GoldRingChip, looks like there were 88 that could be simplified. now that I have made the change, the page is no longer in Category:Excessive uses of season link. the idea is to have a bot do the simplification as the pages are created in the future. Great! I figured that #ifexist wasn't a good option, and I'm glad to know there's a (much) better way to do it. Thanks. —GoldRingChip 20:40, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
