Lots more![edit]

See Kansas Board of Regents for a list of colleges in the state. I propose we go with degree-granting only that have a Kansas address based on the list provided...--Paul McDonald (talk) 02:36, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted merge[edit]

I reverted the merge with the List of defunct colleges and universities in Kansas because it was completed without going through the steps in WP:MERGE. I'm against the merge because of "reasons to avoid merger #1", the resulting article is too long or "clunky" -- especially for two good-sized lists.--Paul McDonald (talk) 13:56, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is the only content fork of pages like this for those in the United States, and it could easily be included in the main page with little information lost as a result. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 19:13, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I can understand where you are coming from, but a lot of this list is filled with information that could be easily seen as an opinion, as it is not cited. While I do commend your efforts, any effort to bring this list to a higher status will be stymied by sections like "University vs college/school", which has statements such as, "6 claimed "university" in their title" in the text. While I used to do things like this as well, they introduce the idea that you are doing original research, and could easily be removed by another editor (something I would have done had I not proposed this merge. At the same time, I have been working on the Massachusetts version and there are one hundred and fifteen active ones and sixty-eight defunct ones there, with another fourteen that I need to add that were missed in previous ones. That totals 197 institutions in all (which of course are the ones that we know of), a lot of which is accurately summarized in the style of the other featured lists of this variety. To be honest with the California example, it must be the latter option, as this information is often very hard to find (unless of course someone centrally publishes it). When I have brought it up to Featured List nomination before, no one complained about the length of them, as I am sure that the completeness of a list like this in a state where there are many higher institutions of learning would have been brought up much sooner. I have mimicked many of the lists in this style before, as I have aimed for the Massachusetts one to eventually become Featured, although at a very slow pace. Regardless, the closed page is over 29K in text, while the open one is 9K in text (point being, this is nowhere near even long for an article). The current iteration of the Massachusetts one is at 117K, so it should also be noted that the page is many times longer than 38K in data, and no one has yet to suggest splitting it at this time. • I don't understand your "original research" points. Writing that a college or university is reported as closed is not original research. It seems that your primary argument is you want it to be similar to a list you are working on. It feels a lot like WP:IDONTLIKEIT (granted a deletion argument, and one that might be applied to my arguments as well).--Paul McDonald (talk) 13:08, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
