Would someone like to remove anything from this list?[edit]

I just did some general wikification. Some of the items on this list are lame but even a lot of the ones without wiki articles are good parts of this list. I do not want to be the one who suggests purging anything from this list, but maybe if someone else proposed removing some things, it could then be shorter and easier to read. Comments? Note

A German translation of this would be of great help. Cheers, Horst-schlaemma (talk) 14:33, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization of list items[edit]

I bit the bullet today and sorted the list items into categories. User:Funandtrvl made a number of changes, most of which I'm fine with. Some I'm not, and here are my thoughts on those:

  • Sports tourism - traveling to go see a sporting event does not count as "Adventure and extreme". I've moved it to "Miscellaneous".
  • Some of Ecotourism, Geotourism, Responsible Tourism, and Sustainable tourism count as "Ecology," but some don't. So far as I can tell, they all fit under "Low impact", so I've moved them there. If anyone comes up with a better name for the topic that covers them all, feel free to change it.
  • None of the topics Benefit tourism, Birth tourism, Libel tourism, Identity tourism, or Three-Dimensional Virtual Tourism are actually about travelling, so I've removed them.
  • Garden tourism is not about nature. It's about traveling to visit a place, wherein someone has taken something natural and made it be quite unnatural. Gardens are lovely, but they aren't anything like actually visiting nature. I've moved it to "Miscellaneous".
  • A category with a single item isn't a category at all, so I moved LGBT tourism to "Miscellaneous".
  • Just try telling parents with a stroller that Accessible tourism is under "Medical and Dental"! I've moved it to "Miscellaneous".
  • I combined "Nature" and "Rural" into "Nature and Rural", as I figured they have a significant overlap.

Personally, I think it's looking pretty darn good (and useful!) now. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 09:16, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birth tourism and libel tourism are about travelling to certain countries/jurisdictions for their specific purposes. --Funandtrvl (talk) 05:12, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My thoughts:
  • Birth tourism: a weak article that really ought to just be a redirect to Anchor baby (although that's not a particularly good article either). Between looking at the sources in that article and then finding only 14 total GNews hits, I think it's simply anecdata & political posturing. But overall, and what really matters: is that article actually about tourism? Imo, no—it's about politics, not vacations.
  • Libel tourism: again, this one could be turned into a redirect to Forum shopping without losing anything (and if there was a List of adjectival shoppings, I wouldn't expect it to include Forum shopping, either). But overall, I don't see that sending your lawyer to the UK counts as a tourist trip for anyone involved.
In short, I think to myself, would anyone come to this list and expect to find these? Or come here because they want to learn more about either? I just don't see it, although I could be convinced otherwise. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 06:56, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, of course, I agree with you, but in the broadest sense of the term "tourism", birth & libel do fall into that category because of the travel entailed, i.e., buying airline tickets, making hotel reservations, traveling with a purpose from point A to point B, etc. They're not leisure activities, they almost have more in common with the voyeuristic types, like disaster or poverty tourism, because they're not necessarily enjoyable types of activities. But, I agree, the terms are vague and not widely used or understood! --Funandtrvl (talk) 07:55, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New heading added Science and Education and addition of Astronomy Tourism[edit]

I have added a new heading "Science and Education", I was surprised not to already find it here. So took an opportunity to create it and I have added "Astronomy tourism" under it.

Over the period of next week, i will be creating a page with the same name.

Astronomy tourism is a niche form of tourism which includes travel to a)witness celestial phenomenons such as Total Solar Eclipses or Auroras b) visiting facilities such as Observatories or meteor craters c) conduct activities such as observations or astro-photography from dark locations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vikrant narang (talkcontribs) 04:14, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
