Station X Bletchley Park[edit]

Whoever drafted this has failed to read and understand their sources properly. Bletchley Park was originally War Station X of the Foreign Office. Additionally, from the original papers now held in the National Archives of the UK it can be seen the designation was the Roman numeral ten in a general schedule of emergency alternative locations called 'War Station's' belonging to UK government ministeries based in London and all designated by Roman numerals. Usage seems to have slipped over time and the Roman 'X' came to be spoken of as the letter of mystery, ie 'X'. There was no ISRB, SO(E), SO 2 or finally SOE Station X as any person interested can determine for themselves if they care to make enquiry of the records held at The National Archives (formerly Public Record Office) of the United Kingdom. The TNA building at Kew will be closed until 2007 December 17 because it is undergoing major refurbishment but thereafter it will be business as usual and all on-line resources will remain accessible during the closure. Information given at the Bletchley Park heritage site itself specifically states that Station X was operated by SOE for contacts with agents and was moved becausde it was felt it would draw undue attention to Bletchley Park. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.98.19.65 (talk) 20:34, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Station 53b[edit]

53b was not a training establishment but a place where radio signals from agents were monitored and read and from which signals to agents were transmitted. I think that 53a was likewise operational rather than for training but my informant did not work there. (RJP 08:13, 26 August 2006 (UTC))[reply]

The book SOE: The Scientific Secrets suggests the difference between station with Roman numerals and those with Arabic numerals but there must be another grouping because several of the stations with Arabic numbers appear to be operational sites rather than training schools. --jmb 13:27, 28 August 2006 (UTC)--jmb 13:27, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SOE Stations in Watford[edit]

Thought this page could use some images? Here are a couple pictures of Station VIIb and Station VIIc as they look today. I didn't add them to the article because I am not sure if they are notable enough given that there isn't much left at the sites today.--Tascio 15:02, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Inverlair[edit]

I just came across a suggestion here that the TV series The Prisoner might have been based on someone's experiences at Inverlair. Some reports talk of just people being detailed there but the book on SOE around the Arisaig area says that someone was told to set up a training school OUTSIDE the restricted area North of the Caledonian Canal and Loch Linnhe. This had all the equipment for training that other schools had but it has been suggested that anyone who dropped out of training for any reason was sent there and would believe they were still going through training but would actually been kept in limbo. They would not come across anyone else from SOE because they were outside the restricted area though they would be unaware of this. --jmb 12:53, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not directly SOE related but there are persistent stories in the local area that Hess was held at Inverlair House for a time. There is no evidence of to confirm this and Major Fyffe appeared to know nothing about it when asked. SOE --jmb (talk) 19:46, 13 July 2008 (UTC)took over the house later in the year when Hess was captured but the house seems to have been unoccupied for some time when they moved in.[reply]
