Cleanup[edit]

This needs cleaning up gramatically, and abetter way of presenting the information. Just about encyclopedic, but could be far, far better. NSLE (T+C) at 13:09 UTC (2006-03-20)

This article includes mention of a hurricane on a date in the future: July 2006. Possibly the year could be wrong.

Question[edit]

If you are going to add remnant lows or light rainfall effects than you need to change the title to "tropical cyclones' because there is no need to fill up this space with inconsequential information and yet, report some significant storms inaccurately. Also, the absense of IRENE in the original post with the remark that it could not be added because it made landfall in NYC is very wrong. Where are you getting this incorrect information? The large eye of Irene made landfall at Jones Beach on Long Island,east of NYC, and then moved over Long Island Sound and made another landfall on the Connecticut coast east of the city of Bridgeport and west of New Haven. Since when is this not a New England landfall? ...and detailed post-storm surveys have reported a much stronger storm on the "never-before-on-land" massive east side of Irene where the strongest winds occurred and category one winds were later reported from south coastal Rhode Island and southcoast Massachusetts, just as earlier Hurricane Hunter aircraft had noted (and the Weather Channel mind you) but were not taken into account when 72 mile per hour winds had dropped from 75 mph and those winds were not occurring in the eye wall but east of the eye and the Hurricane Center somewhat prematurely downgraded Irene. Fortunately, hurricane warnings had been in effect for southern coastal New England as reports show resulting damage consistent with category one winds (south coast massachusetts had winds that gusted from 85-100 mph in some localities from Westport east to Woods Hole and north along the shorelines of Buzzards Bay). Thousands of trees were felled in that area alone Wareham 300 trees on powerlines,New Bedford 250 city trees down on sidewalks,etc...) (all information from New Bedford Standard Times 31 August 2011, NB City Mayors Office,NB Police,Storm Chase Teams located in designated coastal points in New Bedford, Fairhaven and Westport, Local News,press.)

RobertMartinAyers: I note that two hurricanes that greatly impacted Connecticut are described at

but are not in this listing. Yes, they maynot have been hurricanes when they made landfall in New England. But they are certainly big in history. New section added[edit]

I added a new section called landfalls. I like the concept of the petty tables and I think a summery of each decade about what hurricanes made landfall in New England would look nice. This remains a work in progress.Knowledgekid87 14:12, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal: Renaming of the article[edit]

The name isn't so much fitting, as much of the article contains tropical depressions and tropical storms, all of which are not hurricane. They all originate from the same meteorological system, but they don't have the same strengh.

That is true, but it is consistent with other articles, such as List of Florida hurricanes, List of North Carolina hurricanes, etc. A hurricane is just a generic name for a tropical cyclone in the Atlantic Ocean (see Atlantic hurricane season, National Hurricane Center, etc.) It is the most concise title we can have by having it as "hurricanes" instead of "tropical cyclones". --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:37, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
