Peter Forsburg[edit]

I'm not sure what the offical ruling of "still Active is", but Peter Forsburg has never anounced retrment.

Neither has Jaromir Jagr. In general, we bold the players as "active" if they played in the NHL in the most current season (as long as they didn't announce retirement, like Gary Roberts and Markus Naslund did). — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 20:31, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland[edit]

Those should be placed under United Kingdom, IMHO. GoodDay (talk) 20:13, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While they should certainly all be under UK, is there any desire to make not beside a player's name which country of the UK they come from? Steve Thomas (England), Owen Nolan (Northern Ireland), Ken Hodge (England), Steve Smith (Scotland), Peter Lee (England), Jim McFadden (Northern Ireland), Adam Brown (Scotland), Jim Conacher (Scotland), Tommy Anderson (Scotland), Jack Beattie (England). –uncleben85 (talk) 02:49, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Specifying defencemen[edit]

I thought this edit was actually kind of useful. It's something I considered doing myself. I don't care much that it was reverted; my opinion on this isn't very strong. Thoughts from anyone else? — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 05:32, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with it. Seems useful. Grsz11 13:37, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If everyone wants to keep it, then I guess I'll revert myself. Kaiser matias (talk) 14:33, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added that information because in my opinion, being a high-scoring defenceman is a bigger achievement than being an equally high-scoring forward. 82.124.101.11 (talk) 01:23, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2011[edit]

Jan Muršak just scored his first goal, so he will be the second Slovenian on the list.
Barring something strange, Dany Heatley will become the top scoring German.
Andrei Kostitsyn could go on a tear and pass Ruslan Salei for the top scorer from Belarus, but that will probably happen early next year.
Luca Sbisa has a chance to become the highest scoring Italian, if he can manage another 5 points.
And a bunch of smaller countries will move around, but that isn't to hard to adjust. Always exciting to see this list change. Kaiser matias (talk) 04:15, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tomas Sandström is not from Finland[edit]

Tomas Sandström is from Sweden. Tables should be altered. I don't know who should be no 10 for Finland though. --itpastorn (talk) 18:57, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes he played internationally for Sweden, but he was born in Finland, and that is what counts for the article. The article (as mentioned in the lead) follows the Hockey Hall of Fame convention of listing players by the country of their birth, regardless of their nationality. Sandstrom is not the only anomaly this way: see Heatly, Pletts, O'Mara, Kolzig, etc. Ravendrop (talk) 21:34, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Winnipeg Jets[edit]

Separate 3 letter names need to be created to distinguish the original Winnipeg Jets (1972–96) from the current Winnipeg Jets. Currently Nik Antropov is the only player on the list from the current team but Teemu Selänne is still active from the original team. Do we just use the links to distinguish them? Or add extra (new) or (old) qualifiers? Or use new short names like WJ1 or WJ2? 99.246.179.122 (talk) 23:26, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Antropov no longer has WIN as a listed team. I assume because he hasn't played a game let alone scored a point for them yet. That could delay the problem for up to 9 months waiting for end of season before updating. However I think active players should indicate their active team earlier so problem will re-emerge in about 3 months maximum. 99.246.179.122 (talk) 23:44, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
WJ1 and WJ2 probably are the easiest way to deal with it. Either that or the new Jets are WIN and the old Jets are WPG. Might make it easier for someone to understand. We could also eliminate the teams since the player's page has it listed. Instead the number of seasons played could be listed. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 22:19, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't see this discussion until after I had added WPG to Antropov (as opposed to WIN for the original Jets team). Revert my edit if you don't think this information should be added at this time. Ho-ju-96 (talk) 08:22, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2012–13 season additions[edit]

Making some notes as to who will be added (and editing this message):

Other players could very well be added later... Ho-ju-96 (talk) 09:53, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note that Evgeni Nabokov currently has 4 assists on the year, and will need to be moved up on the Kazakhstan list and Jonas Hiller has one assist, and will go up on Switzerland. So far as I can tell, they are the only goalies who will do anything on this list. Kaiser matias (talk) 00:50, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2013–14 season additions[edit]

The season has pretty much just started, but here are some notes on additions...

They are the only players that I know of that currently will be added. Ho-ju-96 (talk) 14:06, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Alexander Ovechkin is currently tied with Sergei Zubov for tenth on Russia's list; on account of goals, and the likelihood that he's going to get at least one more point, Ovechkin will be added and Zubov removed. Kaiser matias (talk) 20:41, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And now Ovechkin passed Zubov, so he's definitely going to be added. Kaiser matias (talk) 23:37, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dmitry Korobov from Belarus will be added. Kaiser matias (talk) 08:09, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nicklas Jensen and Frederik Andersen will be added for Denmark. Jonas Hiller moves ahead of Gerber. Ho-ju-96 (talk) 06:25, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Games Played[edit]

Would anyone know how to begin assembling a page like this, but using Games Played instead? I feel like that would be a more useful statistic to represent how prolific a player was in the league, as using points is not very fair to defencemen or goalies. As well this table leaves out any players who never scored a point. 174.6.64.173 (talk) 07:35, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The point of the article?[edit]

What is the point of this article if the place of birth has--in many cases--absolutely nothing to do with the nationality? Wouldn't it be much more interesting to sort players by the country they play (or played) for? Or actual nationality (if known)? I check "Brazil" and what do I see? Nothing. Canadians Regher and Greenlay just HAPPENED to be born in Brazil. 177.141.190.68 (talk) 18:44, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. What's interesting is nationality, not birthplace. Some of the players don't even have any ancestry from the country that they're listed for, their parents just happened to be living abroad when the player was born.BlueSwede92 (talk) 17:26, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2014–15 season additions[edit]

To keep track for the upcoming season:

  • Evgeni Nabokov has at least one point. As he retired this has been updated.

Kaiser matias (talk) 21:06, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ronalds Kenins will be added for Latvia. Ho-ju-96 (talk) 05:36, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Out of curiosity, should we be listing players who have played in the NHL, but failed to register a point? If that is the case, Croatia should already exist on the list, as List of countries with their first National Hockey League player shows that Goran Bezina, born in Split, Croatia played in the NHL. Looking at his HockeyDB listing he played in 3 games and registered no points. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 02:31, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think such a list would feature so many players it would be difficult to keep the list accurate and complete. It's an interesting question, though. Ho-ju-96 (talk) 06:41, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it would only add few names. Something like 10. Bezina for Croatia; Posa for Italy; Hrabarenka for Belarus; Sauve & Peloffy for France; Fukufuji for Japan; Khudobin for Khazakstan and so on. Gopase+f (talk) 03:19, 24 February 2016 (UTC) EDIT: Divis for Austria; Andrijevski for Belarus; Yeremeyev & Patzold for Khazakstan. Gopase+f (talk) 03:43, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2018-19 Additions[edit]

Alexandar Georgiev got an assist this season. He is now the all-time leading scorer for Bulgarian-born players. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.181.168.253 (talk) 06:04, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

2019–20 season additions[edit]

  • Teddy Blueger enters the top 10 for Latvia.

Stan Smrke[edit]

Stan Smrke is listed under Serbia but his page says he was born in Slovenia. Madg2011 (talk) 01:04, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Madg2011: That was someone vandalizing the page, as all sources say he was born in Belgrade. It's been fixed, thanks for catching that. Kaiser matias (talk) 02:37, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Brett Hull[edit]

Where is Brett Hull here? 1391 pts. 184.56.157.65 (talk) 02:45, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

He was born in Canada, and falls out of the top ten for that country. The list is for country of birth, not citizenship, which is why he's not listed with the United States. Kaiser matias (talk) 03:41, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
