Page overhaul May 2024[edit]

I've revised this article in line with Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lists and Wikipedia:Featured list criteria.

Main changes:

Previously there were a large number (90+) of companies listed, especially under the "Misc." heading. Many of these companies, while originally formed independently, were later absorbed into larger regiments, i.e. "Grave's Company (Copiah Horse Guards)" which was previously under the "Misc." heading was part of the 4th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment. Some companies, such as the University Greys are well-documented and may merit their own articles, however most companies could be better treated under regimental article pages.
There were a large number of unattached, very small, short-lived companies formed in Mississippi, especially in the early and late war. Most of these unattached companies lack sufficient Wikipedia:Notability to have their own articles, and sources are generally lacking. See the first item here: Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists#Common selection criteria. An exhaustive list of small short-lived companies would not be educational to the reader, but such a list does make the page difficult to navigate. I suggest keeping regiments and battalions as the main list items.
Images help add a human face to history, but I felt this page was too cluttered with photos of individuals, which are more appropriately placed on their regimental pages.
