Merge[edit]

A tag was placed by Davidprior (talk · contribs) suggesting Microsoft Office 2007 file extensions is merged into Office Open XML.

I'd like to suggest an alternative. There are a few pages: Microsoft Office 2003 XML formats, Microsoft Office 2007 file extensions and .pst which all cover MS Office file extensions. It may be worthwhile merging all 3 into a single page, which could be called Microsoft Office file formats (or similar).

Comments on either suggestion are welcome --h2g2bob (talk) 00:09, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 2003 formats are different than the (evolving) Office Open XML formats, and when Microsoft Excel 2003 is told to save in "Spreadsheet XML" format, it suggests a filename extension of ".xml", not ".xslx". So any merged article would probably need to treat the 2003 and 2007 formats in different sections. —Fleminra 04:34, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This merge proposal is preposterous. There is absolutely no point merging a list file extensions with an article about another completely different file format. At this time I strong disagree any such merger. However, if you advise on merging this article with Office Open XML I might consider it. Fleet Command (talk) 16:32, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"file" vs. "filename"[edit]

Should this not be "Microsoft Office 2007 filename extensions"? One might otherwise think these are extensions to the XML schema. —Fleminra (talk) 22:50, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't approve of merging[edit]

Firstly, merging 2 articles, one on a file FORMAT, the other on a file EXTENSION is not correct. Also, the 2003 XML format article is deliberately separate..those formats were developed in a different time frame and are not related to Open XML. Neither article should be merged. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xpclient (talkcontribs) 11:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I've removed the merge tag. WalterGR (talk | contributions) 23:48, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Therefore we should no longer merge these discussions, right? 76.185.126.12 (talk) 20:21, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

xltx description[edit]

(I'm too timid to edit wiki pages myself.)

The page describes "xltx" as "Excel worksheet". I am pretty sure that should be "Excel template". (More specifically, it is a template for 2007 and later. Strangely, though, Windows Explorer on my PC [WinXP Pro SP3] identifies both .xlt and .xltx as "Microsoft Office Excel 97-2003 Template". I only have Office 2007 installed, but maybe it does that to ensure functionality for using earlier versions with the OOXML Compatibility Pack installed.)  Done. Thanks for the notice. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 01:07, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
