This needs to be merged or simply deleted. Nice table but Kappa Sigma Man of the year just really is not that notable. Of course it is important to the Kappa Sigs so i could see it in that article but not standing on its own.Trey 04:27, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

You should create a List of Notable Kappa Sigmas. That would not only cleanup the Kappa Sigma article but you can also label guys in the list who have won the Man of the year award. I did the same thing for the List of Sigma Chi notable members and the Significant Sig award. Acidskater 21:59, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Just a note: I'm not sure what the correct protocol is for announcing changes made to an entry...but I wanted to alert everyone to what I've done and why.

I changed Kappa Sig's 1978 MotY's school from MIT to Stanford. While Bill Hewlett did receive a degree from MIT (MS '36), he was actually initiated into the Beta-Zeta chapter (at Stanford, where he earned his undergraduate degree). And even though it appears that Hewlett may have taken advantage of affiliate status at MIT, it makes more sense to list him by his chapter of initiation. Plus, this change keeps Wikipedia in line with Kappa Sigma's own version as maintained on their MotY web page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.12.189.8 (talk) 00:57, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

What is the source of Governor Robert E. McNair's membership into the Chi Omega chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity? The only reference I can find was a recent unsourced entry on his Wikipedia entry. It is not on the notable alumni page on the Kappa Sigma webpage. --Enos733 (talk) 17:00, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Notables

I believe that we need to define a standard for notable - especially in the business and sports sections. Right now, the page is a mismash of members of Kappa Sigma who meet the existing Wikipedia standard for notability by having their own Wiki page, some people who are notable for becoming CEO of a company, and what appears to be, or is heading toward an exhaustive list of members of Kappa Sigma who played in professional sports, or a head coach at the college or professional level.

In some areas, there appears to be general consensus, like in the Politics section, where the list appears to be members of Congress or Governor. In the Business section, there is not as much consensus.

Before someone starts pruning the list, I was wondering if we could find some consensus on who should or should not be on the list.--Enos733 (talk) 04:27, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

During the recent overhaul of List of Phi Kappa Psi brothers, which was promoted as a featured list, I faced the same issue. I only included Phi Psis who had Wikipedia pages, or created pages for them. That ensures that the list meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines, and it also provides for an objective standard that should reduce the likelihood of editing wars. I like this critera, but suggest that there may be a few (it looked like only one or two) who do not yet have Wikipedia articles but would clearly meet the notability standards. It looks like the largest loss would be in the business section. In that case, those without articles may be removed altogether. Alternatively, the founders / CEOs / Chairmen of companies that have articles could also be a sufficient criteria. I don't really feel stronger either way, but I do agree that a guideline should be established, and I tend towards favoring inclusion of well-sourced material. That being said, there are no references for any of these members (although some have a mention, possibly referenced, in their corresponding article). jhe_iv (talk) 20:56, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

If there are only a few without articles, see if you can create a reasonable sourced stub. It doesn't have to a full blown article. Also, look to see if there are articles on different language Wikipedias. Burton Y. Berry is a stub that I created by translating the German version with Google. NYCRuss ☎ 21:16, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Thats a great idea, never would have thought about searching other languages. I wikilinked 10 or so names that had articles, and in a few cases, linked to the company when the company had a page that mentioned the name. I also removed a few that I couldn't find any references on and fixed a few company names (or added redirects) to company articles.

I think these subcategories should be alphabetized and I really like the formatting used in List of Phi Kappa Psi brothers. But back to real work for now, will try to put in some time during this week. jhe_iv (talk) 21:38, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Dave "Boo" Ferriss

I'm new to this so please excuse me for not knowing correct procedure, but there is a someone who I think deserves to be recognized as a notable member. It's Dave "Boo" Ferriss. [1] He is in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, Delta State University Sports Hall of Fame, the Mississippi State University Sports Hall of Fame, the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame. He has a Wikipedia page and all of those accomplishments can be seen on them. He also has pictures hung up on the "Kappa Sigma Wall of Famous People" at the International Headquarters.
