David Bain[edit]

Is the David Bain case 'major' enough for this list? --PFHLai 14:31, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This needs to be divided by country[edit]

The list of Privy Council cases need to be divided by country, such as List of Cingalese Privy Council cases and List of Irish Privy Council cases.

In the case of Australia, separate lists for each state and territory need to be created, as appeals to the Privy Council usually started from the court system of the individual states and territories themselves. Where a Privy Council case mentions the name of both the Commonwealth of Australia itself and the state or territory, the case's article needs to be categorised in both the lists of that state and the Commonwealth of Australia. For example, a case that started in New South Wales and mentions the Commonwealth of Australia needs to be listed in both List of New South Wales Privy Council cases and List of Commonwealth of Australia Privy Council cases. A similar situation applies when a case is mentioning the names of 2 states or territories.

In Canada's case, separate lists for each province, plus the North West Territory and Yukon also need to be created,as appeals to the Privy Council usually started in the court system of an individual province, and sometimes bypassed the Supreme Court of Canada altogether.A case including the name of the Dominion of Canada itself and the name of a province or the two aforementioned territories need to be included in both lists. The same thing applies to a case that mentions the names of any two provinces as well. For example, a case in relation to the Dominion of Canada and Newfoundland need to be categorised in both List of Dominion of Canada Privy Council cases and List of Newfoundland Privy Council cases. Where a case was appealed from the Supreme Court of Canada to the Privy Council, this should also be indicated as well. The Persons Case is the most well-known case that was appealed to the Privy Council from the Supreme Court of Canada. - (202.89.136.133 (talk) 05:16, 18 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]
