I have updated the names to address several problems. The new rule is:
Names are displayed as "{Given name} {Surname}" and sorted with {Surname, Given name} as key.
Previously, names mostly appeared in the "{Surname} {Given name}" ordering in this article, which is not used in English. This was problematic because 1. most articles titles were "{Given name} {Surname}" order, and a large number of pipelinks were added to address this. 2. people were sorting new names inconsistently by surname or given name, and name orders were inconsistent. 3. names should be displayed "{Given name} {Surname}" per WP:MOS-JA. I hope these facts are convincing that the change to add consistency was necessary. --Bxj (talk) 05:34, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, this list is far from being complete. Of course, a truly complete list is impossible, but this list is severely weighted towards contemporary actresses and omits many of the great older actresses like Mariko Okada, Sumiko Fuji, Ayako Wakao, Isuzu Yamada, etc. etc. I will try to add a few, but this needs a major overhaul.Michitaro (talk) 22:10, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
