Oparin[edit]

Hero of Russian Federation Alexander Ivanovich Oparin "выпускника 1979 года капитана 1 ранга Александра Ивановича Опарина, удостоенного звания Героя России за мужество и героизм, проявленные при выполнении специального задания"[1] is obviously different from the scientist Alexander Ivanovich Oparin (1894-1980). I have changed the link to Alexander Oparin (Navy). Maybe we should write an article about the guy so to prevent confusion Alex Bakharev (talk) 23:43, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Alex, I've looked at his entry at warheroes.ru and it only mentions his Soviet Hero distinction. The article you linked to "insinuates" that he was awarded it on the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, but having a look at the list of awards giving out then, on the kremlin website, I can't see any reference to him there. And the only Ukaz I can find is referring to Sergey Oparin. I am actually having doubts at to whether he receive the Hero of the RF award. What you think? I should mention, that I collated this list from ruwiki, and have already removed one which wasn't on their list (Glebov). --Russavia Dialogue 13:45, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Russiavia asked me to comment on this one, so here I go. Regarding disambiguation, we disambiguate Russian names by patronymic when we know the patronymic, and by occupation, when the patronymic is unknown (once we find it out, the title should be changed to use the patronymic). However, when we have people who share the first name, the last name, and the patronymic, then we also disambiguate them by occupation. So, when we have two different people by the name of Alexander Ivanovich Oparin, one should be under Alexander Ivanovich Oparin (scientist), and the other—under Alexander Ivanovich Oparin (officer) (or whatever fits best). Don't ask me what to do when we have, for example, two scientists going by the same name—I don't know :)
Regarding the decree, I was unable to find any mentioning Alexander Oparin, a Hero of the RF, on consultant.ru. The article discussed above says that the portrait was hung on February 22, but it does not mean that the title was conferred on the same day (or during the same year, for that matter), and warheroes refers to a different person altogether (Alexander Yakovlevich Oparin, a Hero of the Soviet Union). I'll try my other sources, but should meanwhile note that the lack of a decree in consultant.ru does not mean that no such decree exists—sometimes things just fall through the cracks when it comes to publishing, and neither consultant.ru nor the Russian government are exceptions to this unfortunate practice.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:55, February 5, 2009 (UTC)
OK, I've tried my "other sources" and failed miserably, meaning I could find no decree mentioning either Oparin or Yevtyukhin, although there are plenty of references to them. It may mean that the decrees never got digitized, or it may mean it's all a giant scam—it's impossible to tell given the data I have, although the first scenario seems more likely. I have found a mention of Alexander Yakovlevich Oparin, the Hero of Soviet Union (Совет Министров РСФСР, Постановление от 18 апреля 1984 г. №141 "О присвоении имени Героя Советского Союза А. Я. Опарина средней общеобразовательной школе №2 г. Нововятска Кировской области). Still no luck on Alexander Ivanovich Oparin. Don't know if this helps much, but I thought I'd post it anyway.
I've also found the mailing address of Mark Yevtyukhin's wife, but, of course, I am not going to post it here for obvious reasons :) A more useful piece of information, however, is this passage taken from Постановление Псковского областного собрания депутатов от 13 июля 2006 г. №1488 "Об обращении к Президенту Российской Федерации с ходатайством о присвоении почётного звания Российской Федерации "Город воинской славы" муниципальному образованию "Город Псков" Псковской области":

2000 год: ... 1 марта 90 воинов-десантников 6-й парашютно-десантной роты 104 гвардейского парашютно-десантного полка 76-й гвардейской воздушно-десантной Черниговской Краснознаменной дивизии на высоте 776,0 в Аргунском ущелье под Улус-Кертом во главе с комбатом Марком Евтюхиным несколько часов вели бой с двухтысячным отрядом чеченских бандитов. 84 воина погибли в том бою, из них 30 были из Пскова и Псковской области. 22 десантникам было присвоено звание "Герой России", 68 воинов были награждены орденом Мужества. 2 августа в Псков на празднование дня воздушно-десантных войск прибыл Президент Российской Федерации В.В.Путин. В присутствии Президента состоялось открытие памятного знака воинам 6-й роты, погибшим в Чечне.

How disambig Sergey Medvedev[edit]

See my note above :) On a serious note, if they can be disambiguated by occupation or rank somehow (say, one was an officer, the other one—a private), that's probably the best way. If that approach does not work (say, they both had the same rank), I'd disambiguate them by dob/dod.
