Series overview dates[edit]

@IJBall: I'm not sure if listing the US season finale date (especially only that) in the series overview is a good idea. I only added the UK air date so that it isn't empty, because that would look bad, and to prevent it from adding the article to a tracking category as a season without premiere date would have been added. Generally, the series overview only lists air dates in the country of the origin, and the UK premiere should be replaced with the Canadian premiere once known. nyuszika7h (talk) 15:49, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Nyuszika7H: I'm not sure that is the case – I think the usual practice is to list by sort of "world premiere" airdates, regardless of what country that premiere takes place in (e.g. even if it's not the "country of origin")... I'll let others comment, but as I said I'm pretty sure this is generally done by "first premiere" date rather than sticking to just the airdates in the "country of origin". --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:52, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We had a similar situation with Elena of Avalor when Ranze kept wanting to use June even though that wasn't in the US. Consensus there was to use July 22 for the series premiere date. That was for a series premiere, not a season finale, so this case might be different, though I'm inclined to believe that we should be going by the country of origin regardless of whether it's a series premiere, a season premiere, a series finale, or a season finale. Although it would certainly be useful if the series overview template had additional columns or, at the very least, auxiliary columns like on episode tables that you could use for first and last aired for other major broadcasting places. For example, for season one here, "First aired (Canada)," "First aired (U.S.)," etc. Amaury (talk | contribs) 16:03, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But wasn't the Elena of Avalor situation about "online" premiere vs. TV premiere dates? That's a different situation that "Backstage" which has premiered episodes "first" in now three different countries... Because of that, I don't think it makes any sense to stick to the Canadian airdates, when they're often not the "first" airings for the episodes of this show... --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:09, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it was that it premiered in Canada first. The relevant discussion can be found at Talk:Elena of Avalor#"Original air date". Amaury (talk | contribs) 16:11, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Although MOS:TV doesn't explicitly say that country of origin must be used for series overview, WP:TVINTL suggests using the "Broadcast" section. But then again, it doesn't say anything about |AltDate= either. Many things are just based on convention and consensus and there's no explicit guidance on them. There was some rewrite going on to clarify a few things, but I totally forgot about it, and I have no idea what's up with it now.
Also, if online premieres are not considered, then I don't see why premieres in another country should be considered (though while I was writing this, turns out that's was not the case for Elena of Avalor). It gets a bit messy when a show premieres earlier in a foreign country without an announced air date for the country of origin, but Backstage is still a Canadian show regardless of earlier premieres elsewhere, and we should primarily treat it as such. nyuszika7h (talk) 16:17, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion may need to be taken to WT:TV then – I can't remember what the consensus over there in on this question. But, on my end, in the case of this show, I think we should go off a "first premiered"-policy rather than a "Canada-only"-policy, as the latter really makes no sense for this show, esp. now... OK, looking at the Elena of Avalor discussion, it looks like we usually go with the country of origin. But, as I said, in this case, I'm not sure that makes sense. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:20, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Soooo... All 30 episodes of season 2 just dropped on Netflix US. [1] [2] (Neither of the accounts are verified, but Netflix itself can also be used as a source.) Definitely a weird way of releasing things, and still no news for Canada. How do we handle this? Now I'm even more inclined to say keep only Canada and note the first release below each episode the first release if it wasn't in Canada, but I don't know... This also makes me wonder, is Disney US ever going to air season 2 or not? Amaury, Geraldo Perez, IJBall, MPFitz1968nyuszika7h (talk) 20:48, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Might be sufficient to just note that at the top of the table that Netflix in the US released it for streaming on the date they did and keep the table with Canadian and UK broadcast releases. Still be would be good to get a secondary source and the twitter ones are primary and unverified. Netflix as a source is also primary and may be transient depending on how long Netflix hosts the season. Geraldo Perez (talk) 20:59, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well yeah, and I just realized Netflix can't be used as a source for the date of release since it's already released. Hopefully we'll get at least a retweet from the verified BackstageTVShow account on Twitter soon. nyuszika7h (talk) 21:14, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Confirmed I just checked and season #2 has been added to Netflix (with no announcement, which is odd...). I'm guessing this means that Disney Channel has no intention of airing season #2 then. Too bad... Anyway, I'll try to get to watching season #2 over the next 1–2 months now. --IJBall (contribstalk) 21:33, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, it seems the entire season aired (or at least was released online) on ABC Australia around 2 weeks ago. [3]nyuszika7h (talk) 16:02, 1 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately it's not from a verified account so we can't really add it, but apparently season 2 premieres in Canada in November. [4]nyuszika7h (talk) 20:09, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Will be interesting to see if anyone in the U.S. picks it up to air it. (FWIW, I'm expecting it to be only Netflix, Stateside...) --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:27, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
