Linköping Municipality or just Linköping?[edit]

Why is this page at "Linköping" only, when other Swedish cities of almost the same size and of similar age is at "X Municipality"? Compare with Västerås Municipality and Norrköping Municipality. I think it makes sense to cover the the municipality and the city proper in the same article, and I can see the reasons for Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Uppsala being exeptions from the "X Municipality" principle for article naming, due to their size and international name recognition. But I think the cutoff point should be before Linköping rather than after it. / Alarm 14:50, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Government in infobox[edit]

Government information was recently added to the infobox; should it be removed? The entity that is discussed in this article is not a political one and has no government. Its population does constitute the majority of Linköping Municipality but they are not equal. The fact that we call the entity discussed here a city while it's the leader of the municipality that is styled mayor confuses things a little. -- Jao 18:37, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Linköpings kommun har tre slags internationella relationer med orter i Europa eller i andra delar av världen. Orterna i de nordiska länderna benämns ”vänorter”. Samverkan med dessa har grundlagts av Föreningen Norden.

De övriga samarbetsorterna är av två slag; dels systerorterna, där relationerna byggts upp och sköts av kommunens systerortsförening och dels samverkansorterna med vilka kommunen slutit avtal om samarbete. Vänorter och andra samarbetsorter

Kommunen har samarbete med fyra vänorter i de nordiska länderna. Dessa är Tönsberg i Norge, Isafjardarbaer på Island, Roskilde i Danmark och Joensuu i Finland.

Linz i Österrike, Kaunas i Litauen samt Guangzhou och Macau i Kina är de orter med vilka kommunen tecknat särskila avtal om samarbete. Tidigare var också Oradea i Rumänien en samverkansort, med vilken kommunen samverkade kring ett demokratiprojekt. Systerorter

Bland systerorterna har kommunen och systerortsföreningen regelbunda kontakter främst med Palo Alto i USA. Med de övriga systerorterna Esteli i Nicaragua, Morogoro i Tanzania och Pietra Santa i Italien har kontakterna varit av betydligt mindre omfattning.

Samtliga dessa är orter med mycket olika förutsättningar.

Den ökade internationaliseringen och EU-medlemskapet har skapat nya förutsättningar för internationell samverkan. Det har blivit allt vanligare med flexibla partnerskap kring konkreta frågor i stället för fasta avtal under lång tid. Samverkan baseras då ofta på den direkta nyttan för olika verksamheter i de samverkande orterna.

Pronounciation[edit]

I am confused by the English pronunciation guide. Based on the IPA, and experience at work (the company I work for has offices in Linkoping), I would put say it is pronounced more like "lin-SHOP-ing" than "Lin-Sherp-ing" as suggested in the article. What you're focussing on is probably the vowel sound - also, the "Linköpingans" pronounce the name differently than the rest of the country. They do the "linn-SHE(r)P-ing", where the rest of us do "LEAN-she(r)p-ing". You are correct, there is no r sound, but the vowel sound itself is closer to the vowel in "sherp" than the vowel in "shop". As a second point, the "sh" sound is closer to the "ch" from "churn" than the sound from either "shop" or "sherp". So "LEAN-chu(rn)-ping" might be closer, using the three English words "lean", "churn" and "ping" would probably best describe the general Swedish pronunciation. 130.239.144.254 (talk) 12:51, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Leoncopung[edit]

In the "Gutasagen" says "Sithan en gutar wendus withr cristindom tha sentu thair sendibutha til hoygsta biscups i leoncopungi" There the name is Leoncopung, copung meaning tradearea or tradecenter. Leon looks like "lion" but could it be Linum "Lin" and then the Linköping could mean "Línkaupangur" but kaupangur is somewhat common in icelendic, and "lín" also although lín or flax was not common to produce or grow in Iceland. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ivarara59 (talk • contribs) 22:22, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
