Why doesn't Wikipedia tell us if they are edible or poisonous?[edit]

I'm a beginner mushroom hunter and have been using Google lens to identify mushrooms I'm not familiar with. Wikipedia is always the first link but they never say whether it's edible or poisonous,I feel like that would be pretty helpful so I don't have to use shroomify after identifying the mushrooms. Just my take, open to discussion. I'm in New England and would love to learn more about the edibles that grow all around us, links to mycology groups would be awesome as well 107.116.79.32 (talk) 14:21, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edibility/toxicity isn't known for most of these species. Where is is known it will be listed on the page for each species. I'm working on finding out which Leucocoprinus species are edible and toxic at the moment but I can only put information on Wikipedia that is backed up by sources and there just isn't information for most of them.
Unfortunately the vast majority of mushrooms are simply regarded as unknown when it comes to edibility because there isn't really any way of knowing whether something is edible or toxic without people actually eating it. MycoMutant (talk) 21:06, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
