Edits from June, 2023[edit]

Hello @Revirvlkodlaku, thanks for letting me know. 1.) Noted on the red links inexplicably removal (did so since there were no hypertextable articles for them in English Wikipedia) could we link the German Wikipedia articles instead? Please advise. 2.) Character titles changed according to the main and supporting actors of the movie, and since I have seen the movie several times. 3.) Unlinked cast members added with no references - used the same source which had been taken to write the current cast list: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1686768/. Shall I proceed to add the source and modify it? Please advise on the three points on how to improve, and thank you for the continuous support. Nir007H (talk) 18:53, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Nir007H, I knew the username was familiar, but I didn't remember if we had interacted in the past. Nice to chat with you again! Ok, let's figure this out:
1.a) When you say "hypertextable", do you mean that there is no existing article on enwiki, or am I misunderstanding? b) I guess linking the German articles is fine, though I've never been too sure how much value that provides to English readers, so I haven't done so myself.
2. I'm not overly concerned about character titles, such as "Dr." or "Prof.", but I recall someone reverting me on that a while back, saying that only the character's name should be used (if available). Anyway, I'll leave that up to you 🙂
3. Yeah, imdb is a tricky one. I used to love using it too, but then I noticed it often includes names that aren't actually in the respective production, and sometimes, depending on the country, the cast/character list will include actors that did dubbing in a particular language, and this tends to confuse things (or maybe I'm the only confused one 🤣)
The other thing to note is that only prominent cast members/characters should be included in the list—though of course, there is some subjectivity there. Anyway, I'll leave 3. up to you as well.
Thanks for engaging! Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 02:31, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Revirvlkodlaku thank you for willing to help!
1. a) That's right. b). The idea came to me since I saw the same in Westwind (film) where 4 cast members were hypertexted to German wiki, since their articles were only written in German and not in Eng Wiki (They were German actors 🙂). Also I was under the impression that colour red was some indication that we should either option A - properly link it or option B - remove the dead link, rather than option c - leave it as it is with the red. What do you think is the best option? I'll take your choice as a precedent and follow the same in future.
2. I agree with you on this. Did so because before my edit: the minor character Dr. Jessen played by Jürgen Tonkel was marked as Dr., and not two of the main characters of the movie (both who were more senior in the hierarchy in the movie as well as having significantly more screen time: Burghart Klaußner as Gustav Merfeld and Thomas Thieme as Roman Bosch). So I decided why only the Junior Dr. is mentioned as Dr.? and not the Prof. and the Senior Dr.?
3. Yes I also agree, but in this case I'm sure. Specially 'Adrian Moore as Joost Bornstedt is the 2nd main character of the entire movie as well as the main hero of the movie*'. IMDb should have mentioned him #2 because of those reasons* and not as #10 in their website. They have done so because he was young and it's his first major role. I believe the main actors of the movie deserve to be featured in the Wikipedia cast irrespective of how big shot the other supporting actors might be.
What do you think? 🙂 Nir007H (talk) 09:44, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Nir007H 1. You'll find that the purpose of a red link is to encourage editors to create an article for that topic. By clicking on the red link, you can start creating the page right away. What I've noticed is that if a red link has been on a page for several years, or if the topic, due to a lack of notability, isn't likely to get its own page anytime soon, some editors will remove it, but there is some degree of discretion to that.
It sounds like we're on the same page on the other topics, so please carry on. By the way, many people don't realize this, but imdb is user-generated, just like Wikipedia. I wonder how stringent their policies and oversight protocols are though 🤔 Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 15:06, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Revirvlkodlaku. Well read and understood about the red links. No changes from your last edit. About the cast: I watched the movie end credits and did the best in both worlds - separated into 2 columns and on the left you have the big shot actors (as per the order of the end credits) and on the right, the football team. I think now it's perfect. About the prefixes: I added only "Prof." Gustav Merfeld (he's the head of the school/ top of the hierarchy). Noticed "Dr." Roman Bosch was already there in IMDb. Hope the edits are justifiable now and awaiting your green light. Nir007H (talk) 16:43, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nir007H, looks great to me! Thanks again for the friendly interaction 😀 Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 16:52, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Revirvlkodlaku for the guidance and support. Much appreciated! Since the article is missing the movie plot, I'll also write it on a later day. 🙂 Nir007H (talk) 16:57, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
