On 12 May 2021, it was proposed that this article be moved from Chink Alterman to Leonard Alterman. The result of the discussion was moved.

Rename proposal Chink Alterman --> Leonard Alterman[edit]

This is a proposal to rename biographical article Chink Alterman to Leonard Alterman, per WP:COMMONNAME. Searching on newspapers.com finds that during Alterman's time playing college and professional basketball (1941–1949), he was referred to as "Leonard Alterman" much more than "Chink Alterman". Search examples, all done on newspapers.com:

"Leonard Alterman" for 1941–1949 gets 136 hits
"Chink Alterman" for 1941–1949 gets 18 hits
"Leonard Alterman" basketball for 1941–1949 gets 130 hits
"Chink Alterman" basketball for 1941–1949 gets 18 hits
"Leonard Alterman" denver basketball for 1941–1949 gets 130 hits
"Chink Alterman" denver basketball for 1941–1949 gets 18 hits

Chink Alterman → Leonard Alterman – Leonard Alterman was primarily referred to by that name, during his time playing college and professional basketball (1941–1949). While there are instances of him being called "Chink Alterman", that name was not used nearly as often as Leonard Alterman by contemporary newspaper reports. The results of searches conducted via newspapers.com are listed on the Talk page. Wikipedia page "Leonard Alterman" currently exists as a redirect to "Chink Alterman".
