Urban legend note[edit]

What's with the note about the urban legend? I read it as "There's a false urban legen legend that if you do X in the game, Y happens. (By the way, if you do X in the game, Y happens.)"

Could someone please explain what's going on? --Billpg 12:53, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not exactly. It says 'There's a false urban legen legend that if you do X in the game, Y happens TO YOUR PC. (By the way, if you do X in the game, something similar happens to LARRY.)' Pictureuploader 22:21, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I totally missed that. Thanks. --Billpg 01:16, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I got the ping-pong virus from copied floppies containing this game. Urban legend or not, for me it was (partially) true. It wasn't connected to doing X in the game though.

By the way, Larry doesn't die from the disease, but it "makes life not worth living". ComaVN 10:15, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hm? I remember that Larry's skin changes and then he dies. Maybe tyou refer to 'time is up' after night passes? Pictureuploader 11:31, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • In the VGA version, it causes Larry's entire lower body to explode. Then it says "While life may be possible, to you it is no longer worth living." I think he did die in the original version of the game. - furrykef (Talk at me) 20:08, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Hmm, the EGA version has the same message, although Larry does die immediately afterward. - furrykef (Talk at me) 05:08, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Phonecall using answers you told over the phone before[edit]

I've just been playing this game to check it out (I like old junky games), and theres this part where you can call a number written on the telephone, you answer a few questions about some girl, and then the girl calls you later. I was wondering if its possible to get to where she is, but I sort of doubt it. If anyone knows definatively - it would be a useful note on this page. Fresheneesz 18:56, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have read Al Lowe's bok and he doesn't mention anything like that. Old games were not that easter egg intuitive back then Pictureuploader 11:13, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Death by flirting[edit]

I tried to recreate the "flirting death" mentioned in the article (the one where you try to flirt with the male patrons) to no avail. I haven't found it in any walkthrough. Does anyone know exactly what to do? Zainker 20:25, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am an old gamer of Larry and still, it's first time I hear that (not that I don't discover new stuff from time to time). Maybe it refers to another game of the series. Pictureuploader 23:32, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • It's fake, and now removed. Korodzik (talk) 11:57, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • This likely referred to LSL 6, where if you flirted with the 'Gary Fairy' character, you got a fail state because Larry became gay. Pretty amusing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.20.194.16 (talk) 05:15, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Napkin[edit]

Am I the only one who had a napkin packaged with the game? I guess I'll have to take a picture of it.

Image copyright problem with Image:ST Leisure Suit Larry.png[edit]

The image Image:ST Leisure Suit Larry.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Images[edit]

I restored the previous images, and moved the one of 1987 edition Fawn, for the following reasons:

  • I find my version of 1991 Fawn to be both smaller and cleaner (better colors and no pointer in the middle)
  • I believe including illustrations of all the women in the game is valuable for illustrating the plot

If you find the rationale to be lacking please feel free to clarify it, of let's have a discussion. --Maggu (talk) 16:40, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You missed the point of their removal.
  • The images didn't have sufficient fair use rationales ("to illustrate the article" doesn't count).
  • the article is small, and doesn't justify this many screenshots. I thought it was a fair concession to add a similar image, only this time as a DOS/PC comparison.
It would have been more relevant to simply upload two versions of Lefty's Bar, but I didn't want to step on your toes. At any rate, you can't justify this many images, particularly when the Plot section is sufficient to describe the girls (the same goes for each LSL article).
I'm reverting this. Johnnyfog (talk) 22:52, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

Hello! I will be reviewing this article. --Cerebellum (talk) 17:48, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • (dropping in) Ah, just seen this. Larry seemed so exciting as a teenager, now I'm his actual age (I guess) he seems more pathetic. Anyway, wondered if it's worth mentioning in the gameplay, money can only be earned in the casino and there's a limit of $250 because its stored as an 8 bit unsigned number (whose maximum value is 255 - see the AGI specs). --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:09, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, here are some comments:

  • Prose: The player can walk between areas that are next to each other (like the casino and the 24-hour wedding chapel and the discothèque and convenience store), but the only method of travel between areas which are not next to each other is by hailing a taxi, which costs the player money; failure to do so results in Larry being mugged or hit by oncoming traffic. I don't think we need this much detail - how about The player can walk between areas that are next to each other, but other areas can only be accessed by hailing a taxi, which costs the player money; failure to do so results in Larry being mugged or hit by oncoming traffic.
  • Development: (it was the only text adventure that was released by a company which had established its name on providing a graphical alternative to such games) - This is uncited, a bit trivial, and interrupts the flow of the article; are you okay with removing it?
  • This source (which might not be reliable) states that the two text games were released by On-Line systems before they renamed themselves Sierra On-Line and started creating graphical games. The company rename and date thereof is certainly backed up by the official site. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:29, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Development: The 1991's Leisure Suit Larry 1: In the Land of the Lounge Lizards used the new game engine Sierra's Creative Interpreter and was released in 1991 for the Amiga, DOS and Macintosh platforms. I'm not sure how to fix it but this sentence is a little jacked up. Any ideas?
  • Organization: The paragraph about the remake (4th paragraph of "Development") seems a bit out of place. Could you combine that and the "Reloaded" section into a single "Sequels" section?
  • New Statesman: I couldn't access the New Statesman link.
  • References: It's not required for GA, but to improve the article further consider adding references for the remake and reloaded information.
  • Gameplay: It's a little odd that this section relies almost exclusively on one source. Do no other sources discuss the gameplay? If not, perhaps trim this down a little bit.

Good job on this! You've avoided both of the traditional pitfalls of video game articles: your sources are impeccable and your plot section is short. You've even got fair-use rationales for all your images! I made some minor copy edits and trimmed some stuff, but the prose looks good - let me know if I took out something important. My only issues were those listed above, so take a look and let me know what you think. I'm placing this article on hold for a week and then I'll take another look. The lost two comments are just suggestions for further improvement, so I'll pass the article even if you don't do anything about them. --Cerebellum (talk) 19:11, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'll try not to stalk this GA review for too much longer (sorry!) but the "Plot" and "Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded" sections are unreferenced, and if I was feeling pointy, I could be within my rights to tag them with {{unreferenced}} and claim the article should be quickfailed. However, neither would be too difficult to source. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:29, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No worries about the stalking, I appreciate your input as I don't have too experience with adventure games and am likely to miss some things. --Cerebellum (talk) 20:00, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ritchie333: Could you hadle any grammer/tense problems with the article (if any)? Also possibly prose in general. --Niemti (talk) 13:42, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reloaded is not a sequel, it's the 2nd remake (the first remake, from 1991, is covered by this article). The sequels are covered by the article Leisure Suit Larry. --Niemti (talk) 13:47, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article looks good, I'm happy to pass as GA. --Cerebellum (talk) 09:07, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
