Name[edit]

It has been requested at wp:RM/TR that this page be moved to Leila Ismailava. Is there a cite for this name, as IMDb and her facebook page use the current spelling, and the -ova surname surfix seems to be the accepted spelling for some Eastern European countries.Martin451 (talk) 22:54, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment -ova surname surfix to be accepted spelling for Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Russia, Ukraine and other, but -аva in Belarus. In the USSR, the practice of transliteration of surnames, usually with the Russian language (-ova). Now in Belarus approved a Belarusian transliteration (-ava) (Please see page of Leila in Belarusian Wikipedia.) Leila on her Facebook page uses the old Soviet spelling, from Russian. --Telman Ganja (talk) 23:04, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's quite accurate to say it's just an "old Soviet spelling". Russian is the second official language of Belarus as well as the mother tongue of a substantial portion of the population, and if I understand correctly Belarusians even have their names spelled in both languages in their passports. The usual practice in Wikipedia is to use a transliteration of the Belarusian form, though. Jafeluv (talk) 06:40, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
