This article contains many sources but is not yet well-organized. The Talk may draw suggestions or comments improving coverage of Learner autonomy. — Rgdboer (talk) 03:47, 11 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This article has a vast literature (see bibliography) and is pertinent to the shift in learning with the internet and Wikipedia empowering learners. As the article notes, the primary emphasis so far lies with language learning and citizenship development. The article suffers from lack of a champion, though many authors are cited and more eligible. Who is William Henry Holmes and why is his visage here? Further, the article includes three lists, contrary to our manual of style. There is also a lack of wiki-links which might be remedied by consideration of educational psychology or other learning or personal development articles. — Rgdboer (talk) 02:55, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Learning styles[edit]

I am concerned by the following text within the Definition section: "One must discover their personality types and find out which learning style suits best. One method in which to do this is to take a personality test such as the MBTI Personality Test."

There has been quite of lot of literature explaining the lack of evidence for learning styles theory (for a good systematic review, see Coffield, F., Moseley, D., Hall, E., & Ecclestone, K. (2004). Learning styles and pedagogy in post-16 learning: A systematic and critical review. London, UK: Learning and Skills Research Centre). In any case, the argument for why "one must" discover their personality type or learning style is not clear. On the other hand, understanding how one learns does seem important to the development of autonomy, so perhaps making this point more generally would be better than advocating for these specific and contentious methods? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Timfawns (talkcontribs) 21:43, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
