A Similarity?[edit]

Does anyone else see a common thread here with the current Jan Dzierzon debate? Dr. Dan 03:02, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, in both cases we see some editors who almost never create any content spill oceans of virtual ink debating naming issues, and taking time away from those who actually do something constructive in this project. So may I suggest you stop asking such questions which only contribute to that time wastage, and instead do something constructive, like copyedit English in articles? We have a serious lack of experienced copyeditors, and I know you are good in that. Thank you.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  05:12, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My respectable colleague forgot to mention that in both cases we have self-confessed Poles being called by some foreign names for no apparent reason. I wonder why don't we move the article on Winston Churchill to Wynstonas Churchilas... //Halibutt 10:55, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mocking Lithuanian language again? Halibutt, you seem to never learn.Lokyz 11:23, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to see Priotrus Prokonsul (P.P.) remarks on this "newest" example of "valuable" "contribution". M.K. 12:00, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Halibutt, the correct Lithuanian name for WC is Vinstonas Leonardas Spenseris Čerčilis, not Wynstonas Churchilas. I'd strongly suggest we try to avoid using this language and leave it to our Lithuanian collegues to deal with it's intricacies, as you can see they are quite touchy when people make mistakes in it.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  19:28, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What a perfect weaselising "mistakes". Piotrus you're just great, when it comes to covering of an obvious chauvinism.--Lokyz 19:38, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To be completely honest...[edit]

Yes, the Lithuanian editors have been a bit touchy about the whole subject. So is there any need to be annnoying about it? You're clearly just taking the piss with all the "let's rename every single page to Lithuanian" and so on and so forth. I, personally, don't see any need for it. I know it's been said a million times, but why can't everyone stop with the snide comments? For once? I'm not gonna get my hopes up. Andrius 21:22, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I completly agree; I have asked Dr. Dan several times to avoid starting such debates which inevitably lead to flaming. Perhaps you can chime in?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  21:40, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully, you're not implying that Dr.Dan is the only one to blame. It's pretty much everyone. The snide comments have been coming from left, right and centre. So, therefore, EVERYONE needs to stop the Us v. Them attitude. It won't be easy and I think we're past the stage where everyone can just shake hands and make up, so another way is probably the way to go. What everyone has to see is that there are several sides to the story and everyone has a case for claiming someone is of a certain nationality. No-one is claiming that Churchill is Lithuanian. There's a difference between a phonetic transcription of a name, and the name in a different language. Andrius 22:04, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, everyone, myself included, is to blame for replying to the post above. I'd strongly suggest refactoring this page by deleting the current 'finger-pointing' discussions - it worked once. Unfortunatly, somebody just can't keep quiet... :(-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  22:16, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're quite right there, that's probably the best way to sort out this problem. Andrius 22:37, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
