Checking grammar...[edit]

I'm struggling with a sentence in the second-to-last paragraph under Biography: "... despite departures from the truth and presenting a hagiographic rendition of a complicated biography." I'm questioning the use of both "departures", a noun, and "presenting", a verb. Don't they need to both be nouns or both be verbs for a grammatically correct sentence? It reads funny to me as is.
