The result of the move request was: moved. Moved Marie of the Port (film) to La Marie du port. Marie of the Port (film) → La Marie du port – The article was recently moved from its stable title "La Marie du port" to a literal English translation "Marie of the Port". [1]

Relevant policy states: "Use the title more commonly recognized by English readers; normally this means the title under which it has been released in cinemas or on video in the English-speaking world."

And: "If the film has never been widely released in the English-speaking world, it is not assumed to have a commonly-recognized English name; in such cases, the native name is to be preferred over potentially variant translated titles used in English-language reliable sources."

In this case the film is best known in English speaking countries as La Marie du port.[2] [3] [4] . Major scholarly works in English also refer to the film under its French title. See for example, Turk, Edward Baron. Child of Paradise: Marcel Carné and the Golden Age of French Cinema. Harvard University Press, 1989, pp. 138-39, 440, 490 [5]

Neutral. It should be noted however, that Unifrance, the French organization for promoting French films, which is particularly active in the English-speaking world, has the film on its website and lists it as Marie of the Port. The subtitled film's opening credits are in French and depict the film's French title, but below the on-screen title, the subtitle indicating the film's title in English is "MARIE OF THE PORT". —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 03:21, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment. This request seems incomplete. There are now three pages that ought to be addressed: Marie of the Port (film), Marie of the Port (novel), and Marie of the Port (disambiguation). I would suggest instead that these respectively become → La Marie du port (film), La Marie du port (novel), and La Marie du port. Also, @Lord Cornwallis has explained to OP his reasons for the move here and should have been informed of this move discussion (even if his move could have simply been reverted under WP:RMUM). My apologies if I didn't follow correct protocols. As you have seen, I did discuss the matter with Lord Cornwallis on his talk page but he didn't respond to my last post there so I decided to open the matter up for general discussion. I assumed he had the relevant pages on his watchlist and would be able to join the discussion. The article on the novel has already been moved to Chit of a Girl, which is the best known English translation of the novel. However, if there is a consensus for your proposal to change the titles to La Marie du port (film), La Marie du port (novel) and La Marie du port (disambiguation) I would support this.
