10 Year Warranty

I have changed the article slightly. Originally it was completely based on the US specification Sorento. Also, warranty information is country specific, so I have removed that (the 10 year warranty was only powertrain, so it was inaccurate anyway). Davez621 08:24, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Just a thought - indeed with most 'international' makes, the 'specifications' invariably change from one market to another.

Here for example the generic term 'fog lights' would likely mean 'front' for say the US, but in other places such as EU or in Australia, the vehicle has both front and rear fog lights.

Of course, differences are not just related to lighting.

Folk would do well to mention the market the specification, as written, applies. I have not and will not adjust the page or other similar. JP, 5 September 2006.

Vehicle Class

I changed the class from compact SUV to Mid-size crossover SUV. I'm not sure about the crossover moniker, I guess it would depend on how you define "crossover". It is labeled crossover on the List of recent automobile models by type page but Kia Motors does not refer to it as such. Even so, considering the other cars in that category, like the BMW X5 which shares almost identical body specs, I would tend to agree and as such have left it listed as a crossover.

Kia Motors does, however, have it listed as a Mid-sized SUV. And Peter Butterfield, COO of Kia Motors America Inc. commented in Ward’s Dealer Business, Sept 1, 2002, that the Sorento “aims to compete with the likes of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Nissan Pathfinder and the Toyota Highlander.” —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tekrex (talk • contribs) 17:04, 14 November 2006.

It's a truck-based SUV, not a crossover. Kia intends it to compete with larger vehicles, car and truck-based, because that's all it has to offer. Other RWD-based vehicles, like those currently listed on the page, are the most similar to it. IFCAR 01:57, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Name Section

does anyone else think the name section sounds like a PR message? Perhaps it should be modified to sound more like a proper encyclopedia entry, as opposed to a plug for the car. --Andrewy 02:33, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Description may be in error

Under "Third generation (2015–present)" it says, "The SXL . . . offers the V6 engine as the only option." I own what I believe to be an SXL. It has the letters SXL on the rear and I was sold it as an SXL. It has all of the features you list under SXL. But it has the Theta II 2.0T not a V6 engine. It looks like the 2016 Sorento SXL (or SX-Limited) was available with both 4 and 6 cylinder engines but in 2017 it was V6 only. This section needs updating. Yes, my SXL is a 2016 model. The wikipedia statement that the SXL was only offered in 6 cylinder caused me to buy the wrong car. BTW, I did use 4 tildes and it showed foobar. It has changed since then.

Name (again)

I had to go back to 2007 (in this article) to get the info on the name.

Is there more? Does “Sorento” mean something (or sound like something) in Korean?

Kia Sportage is the predecessor??

@Alawadhi3000: They are built on similar structures. The 93-04 Sportage is a truck based Compact SUV. Same with the 03-09 Sorento. And the 05 Sportage is a CUV. Similaryly the same applys to Santa Fe and Tucson except Compact CUV segment2007DodgeRam (talk) 18:55, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

@2007DodgeRam: Yes, what you are saying is correct, but that doesn't mean that the 1st gen Sportage successor is the Sorento. The Sportage was SUV based because it was based on a Mazda Bongo, the Sorento is different, its bigger and targets a different class. When Kia did their own platform the Sportage was switched to an CUV probably because thats what the market needs. Alawadhi3000 (talk) 19:12, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
