There are currently several groups of theosophists in the U.S., possibly the largest being headquartered at Wheaton, IL, and styling itself the Theosophical Society in America. My understanding is that it is made up of the successors of the group of ~200 who left Point Loma and returned east in Tingley's time. All NA groups seem to be on friendly terms, these days, buying each others' books, hosting each others' speakers, but they have so far never reunited into one organization. My question concerns the original movement from NY to Point Loma. Did that happen immediately when Judge and Besant fell out, or after his death, under Tingley's leadership. As her ascent was kept secret for a year, I'm thinking there may have been sexist concerns about a female leader (despite historic female leadership!). Also, she was already living at Loma with Philo, and she is usually credited with the move, but "Judge left..." implies that he left NY, so where did he take them, if not Point Loma? The compond in Wheaton didn't exist yet, to my knowledge. Anybody know? rags (talk) 10:38, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
