Kadavas were Vanniyars[edit]

Read the sources before quoting. The reference source given as support for kongu vellala origin for kadavas itself mentions that kadavas are pallis i.e. vanniyar.

"5 Srimushnam (S.A.): 6th year.

Registers remission of padikaval and other levies due to the donor from the devadana lands, for worship to the god at Tirumuttam in Vilandai-kurram, a subdivision of Merka-nadu Irungolappadi in Virudarajabhayankara-valanadu by Alappirandan Elisaimogan alias Kulottungasolak-Kadavarayan, a PALLI having the kani-right in Urumur alias Solapandya-chaturvedimangalam alias Erumbur, for the merit of himself and his family (See also A.R. No. 137 of 1900).

(No. 232 of 1916)." Kalingarayar (talk) 18:33, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Guys lets be clear on one thing before repeating the same quote from Nilankanta Shashtri's book. KAN shashtri was a historian and he gave his view points on the probable origin due to lack of inscriptions and literature sources.

Now this inscription was not given by some historian, it was given by the king himself. And palli here clearly refers to the person who has the kani rights. It does not talk about a place named palli. And proof that kadavas were vanniyars goes beyond this single inscription, there are literature proofs for example the "Egambaranathar Ula" by Irattiyars written during 15th century. Find something similar if you want to refute this! So if you want to do guesswork, write a blog! Kalingarayar (talk) 10:39, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Misreading Noburu Karashima[edit]

I've just removed some stuff that seemed to misrepresent what Noburu Karashima says. The quoted material about inscriptions did not refer to Vanniyar and the final quote - "From the above it is clear that the Kadava chiefs, who were Pallis (Vanniyars) by jati and had established their power in Gadilam River area." - is skewed. For example, see here, here and other quotations from Karashima himself such as "They seem to be closely related to the Palli, Vanniya or Agambadiyar castes." I'm not quite sure how to resolve this but the statement as it was is not acceptable. - Sitush (talk) 17:13, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

- The links you provided didn't mention that vanniyars are differ from palli and it also didn't disclosed anything about kadavas were not palli. Which is much needed here for your removal. so I revert it again because of Noburu Karashima's strong opinion that "From the above it is clear that the Kadava chiefs, who were Pallis (Vanniyars) by jati and had estabilished their power in Gadilam River area." (Premthanjavur) 07:52, 08 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is, Karashima changed his mind (as I have already told you on Talk:Sambuvaraya) and you are cherrypicking one sentence out of context even in the source that you use. Instead of relying solely on Karashima, you need to find some other sources. - Sitush (talk) 08:01, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article is not reliable. The author is an administrative officer and merely make a passing mention. where as Oxford university publication mentions that kadavas are forest chieftains. Please provide clear academic publications. Sangitha rani111 (talk) 03:11, 9 June 2015 (UTC)Sangitha rani111[reply]

The source I have provided was Archaeological Review of India, Published by govt of India. /* Oxford university publication mentions that kadavas are forest chieftains*/ Please provide exact reference for the above quote you have mentioned.Premthanjavur (talk) 05:04, 11 June 2015 (UTC)Premthanjavur[reply]

Read this book

Rise of a Folk God: Vitthal of Pandharpur By Ramchandra Chintaman Dhere, Anne Feldhaus - Oxford university publication. Clearly mentions how kadavas are forest people and chieftains in forest. He attributes their orgin to forest native tribes..

Also the source provide by you just mentions "scholars think kadava are related to pallava" and it is just a passing mention.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sangitha rani111 (talkcontribs) 16:30, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please read this link which clearly mention Kadavas as Palli, Padayachis or Vanniyar, It also includes the epigraphical evidence
