KIVA information on KYMA article[edit]

I have removed the information about TV station KIVA from KYMA's broadcast infobox. The infobox is supposed to be a quick summary of the subject of the article, which is KYMA. Including KIVA information there gives the impression that the two stations are related. They are not. None of the conditions are present which are used to establish relationship between the stations: there is no common license, no common owners, no common callsign, no common intellectual unit. KIVA information is acceptable in the article, but only as a brief historical note, as there is not enough information for its own article. If there is a fair amount of reliably-sourced information about KIVA, please consider giving the station its own article, to which KYMA can then link. dhett (talk contribs) 21:42, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

KYMA was an on-air transmitter "K10TN" in the Coachella-Imperial valleys in the late 1980s before it became KYMA, the Prime Ticket sports network was on-air (although mainly on cable) in the Los Angeles area where it originated from. It was on the Desert Sun newspaper's TV listings in Jan-March 1989. Both the Coachella and Imperial Valley TV markets had 2 out of 3 major TV networks in the 1960s-2000s before Fox became a major one itself by the end of the 20th century. 67.49.85.100 (talk) 20:07, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material[edit]

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 13:45, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

KYMA-DT (1988–2020) → ? – If you are not familiar with broadcasting article title guidelines, please read this thoroughly before commenting.

In 2019, Northwest Broadcasting, which owned television stations KYMA-DT and KSWT in Yuma, Arizona, was acquired. In order to comply with certain ownership regulations, the buyer was required to divest or surrender the license of one of the stations, which have been co-owned since 2014 under a waiver. It has chosen to shut down the KYMA-DT license, but prior to doing so, on January 13, 2020, it switched their callsigns, such that the current KSWT article needed to be moved to KYMA-DT. This change now shows in the FCC call sign database and is not in doubt. It is worth noting that a TV viewer in Yuma will notice little change, as all of the programming on the former KYMA-DT has been moved to the old KSWT/current KYMA-DT multiplex.

The question that remains—and where I need consensus—is where to put the article about KYMA-DT from 1988 to 2020. The license that is being surrendered has been given the KSWT call sign, but I have a personal rule against "Viking funerals", in which a call sign is paired with a license that will expire or be surrendered in its final days, because they break WP:COMMONNAME. The final call sign on a license in this situation is thus not one a reader will expect and not an appropriate article title. I briefly put the article at KYMA-DT (former license), in order to move KSWT to KYMA-DT, and want to determine an appropriate disambiguator. Mvcg66b3r put it at KYMA-DT (1988–2020), which is probably the best available option given the precedent set by my defunct station work last year.

I am establishing this RM mostly to gain consensus from others. The current article title is probably the one that will stand, but I want to have it nailed down. Sammi Brie (tc) 20:00, 14 January 2020 (UTC) Relisting. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:46, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Whoo boy. This is one of those once-in-a-blue-moon situations. Outside of the licenses being separate, there's almost no tangible difference between this KYMA-DT and the "new" KYMA-DT that would meet regular titling standards. "KYMA-DT (former license)" or "KYMA-DT (Channel 11)" are the only such possibilities that come to mind. Although technically not correct because of the "-DT" suffix in use from 2009-2020, "KYMA (TV)" may be another possibility. If I had any preferences, it would be either "KYMA (former license)" or keeping this here as-is. Nathan Obral (talk) 20:44, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I meant "KYMA-DT (former license)", lol my brain hurts thinking about this. Nathan Obral (talk) 20:49, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Sammi Brie and Nathan Obral: just keep the current title as it is. 192.101.255.184 (talk) 19:14, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How about KYMA-DT2 (or KYMA-DT3)? 107.242.125.51 (talk) 21:36, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 22:22, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Mvcg66b3r: I checked Rabbitears.info and says this! [1] The subchannels of the former KYMA-DT is merged into the spectrum of the current KYMA-DT. A similar situation exists with WNYS-TV's subchannels merged with that of WSYT's spectrum. 107.242.125.51 (talk) 22:53, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not sure. Firstly, as mentioned about, it was a "-DT" only since 2009. It was also KCAA-TV from 1982-87.[1] As a historical/defunct article, I'd like the title to somewhat reflect these things. I also know for CONCISE reasons we tend to leave defunct articles at their last-known callsign, but using the "swapped" callsign thoroughly sucks for readers. Maybe the current title is the best we can do, but the date range should reflect that the station was up (using KCAA) prior to 1988. -- Netoholic @ 11:47, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Mvcg66b3r and DrVogel: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:54, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, has this been discussed? It may not be uncontroversial for the code to point to the old station rather than the current one. Dr. Vogel (talk) 12:27, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:NCBC. See last year's RM above. 162 etc. (talk) 16:41, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose on the same grounds I gave last year. When a call sign change is made for the express purpose of sacrificing a specific call sign as part of a license/facility surrender (an act I call a "Viking funeral"), a COMMONNAME problem is created. It's unfortunate a better disambiguator is not to be had here; "KYMA-DT (channel 11)" is inappropriate because the current KYMA-DT uses both major channel numbers (11 and 13). Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 07:52, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: At the time this facility went off the air, it was KYMA-DT. Its license was cancelled as KSWT, but that was only on paper, as it was the result of the call swap that took place at the same time the plug was pulled on this facility's transmitter, owing to the de facto merger of the two previously-separate stations into being, in effect, two separate program streams on one license, the current KYMA-DT. It never operated as KSWT, and realistically, anyone looking for information on "KSWT" is looking for the article on channel 13 in Yuma — i.e., today's KYMA-DT. (Indeed, KSWT presently redirects there, not here.) Realistically, nothing has changed since the last RM — and any and every mention of "KSWT" ever being on this facility is from either the FCC databases or something reliant on the FCC databases, not any other source. --WCQuidditch 22:00, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
