Vital dates[edit]

I have notes that variously put his birth at 23rd, 24th, 25th or 26th January 1868, and his death at either 9th or 13th July 1894. Is our version accurate - and how do we know? -- JackofOz (talk) 03:48, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Publication history of "Over the Waves"[edit]

I am author of a Rosas biography and have changed the first paragraph full of unproven assertions for hard evidenced facts. For example the bold staement that "Over the Waves" had been published first of all in New Orleans years before it was published by Wagner y Levien in 1888. During more than two decades of researching this subject I found several authors writing that, however, not a single one presented a source or reference. Until today I could find neither an exemplar of an edition released before 1888 nor another hard evidence for that assertion. I really wished that from now on only people with consolidated knowledge would edit the article. If I remember correctly, there is (or was before Katrina) a copy of the 1884 New Orleans edition sheet music at Tulane University, either in the Jazz Archive or the Music Library collections. It was part of a series of Mexican tunes published in conjunction of the Mexican Band at the World Fair in New Orleans in 1884 - 1885. Infrogmation (talk) 20:22, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you refer to the Junius Hart edition at Tulane - which in fact is the only edition of "Over the Waves" they have according to the director of the Hogan Jazz Archive and Special Editions at Tulane, Bruce B. Raeburn - this music sheet does not contain any publication year but on the back cover we find promotions for other pieces including an imprint "copyright 1891 by Junius Hart". University library cataloging puts a question mark (see link below), Because of the imprint it canot have been published before 1891.
