Aside from needing to be made more general and needing to include information about historical junior roller derby leagues, I believe this article should be renamed to junior roller derby. "Derby brats" can be acknowledged as a popular name for individual leagues, and "brat leagues" can be acknowledged as an alternative aggregate term, but journalists would be more likely to use adjectives like "junior" or "girls" or "boys" when talking about these organizations in general.

Here are some Google searches of interest:

• "junior roller derby" in the news (with a reference from 1972!)
• "derby brats" on the Web
• "derby brats" in the news

Frank Deford's Five Strides on the Banked Track: The life and times of the Roller Derby (Little, Brown and Company, 1971) also mentions "junior" leagues for kids were on Leo Seltzer's agenda in the early 1950s.

Historical junior derby leagues

One possible angle to take in finding references to historical junior roller derby is to search on the right term. I have been told by a retired professional derby skater who skated in one such league that they were called "jet leagues." If a search upon that were to produce verifiable results, that could establish that junior leagues indeed existed. I have actually seen photos (online) of historical junior roller derby, I do know that one of the organizations that operated one was Rollergames (era and exact name of league unknown). I'm under the impression that Jerry Seltzer did operate some form of "jet" derby group. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TimBRoy (talk • contribs) 22:06, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Junior leagues now use the master name registry.

The only reason JFTDA (now JRDA) created their own registry was that the main registry was initially declining to register names for their leagues. This created some name conflicts, one being that there were two Audrie Headburns. One point that was raised at the time was, "What happens when junior derby skaters graduate to adult leagues?"

The situation has since been remedied. The master registry has been handling junior skaters since March 2008 (load the site, search on "Brats." The registry on their own site is probably still there but is no longer being maintained. TimBRoy (talk) 12:13, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Separate out the JRDA section vs rename article

WFTDA and MRDA have their own pages, and while the content would need to be developed for a standalone JRDA article including increasing references and so on, I feel it should have an article of its own as an international sports governing body. Pumathurman (talk) 18:30, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
