Untitled[edit]

I've made quite a few upgrades to the page however I don't by any means consider myself an expert on this subject. It needs 'lots' of citations and references which is doesn't have. If you look at the history you will see I removed a few references, this is correct those reference dont have anything to do with confirming the contents of the article. Couple of other comments "Prince of Divine Presence" theirs more than one, which is why I say 'A' Prince of Divine Presence. Another thing that bothers me is Zophiel (possible fallen angel), Jophiel and Yofiel are all listed as the same entity. There does seem to me many similarites between them and lots of the content I've found groups them together. -- Shimirel (Talk) 00:09, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jophiel and Yofiel are the same word in Hebrew; there's no "J," so Jophiel is just technically a modernized transliteration of the name. Zophiel appears to be an alternate pronunciation, which is quite common when dealing with names in ancient texts. Also quite common are different texts using the same names to describe different beings, hence the variety of actions, attributes and even personalities ascribed to the same angel. The best we can do is simply say, "According to this source, the subject is like X, but according to that source, the subject is like Y." We can accurately reflect the controversies, and divergent views, as long as we provide the origin of the viewpoint. Zahakiel 03:54, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't Jophiel a Throne?[edit]

According to this wikipedia article, he is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchy_of_angels Pablo 10:08, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no cabal.[edit]

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is it not supposed to say "kabbalistic" on that section header and in the last paragraph of that section? Rather than "cabalistic", I mean. - Zeibura ( talk ) 01:10, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Zophiel means "God's Spy"?[edit]

I found this article because I was looking for the "God's Spy" angel I remember reading about as a kid. I see here that Zophiel is listed as "the Rock of God", and am wondering if this is a translation or a mistake. Or if it is I who is mistaken. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.130.80.121 (talk) 21:45, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unattributed claims[edit]

This article has a lot of unattributed claims. For example: "Another possible name for Jophiel is Dina of the seventh heaven who was a Cabalistic guardian of the Torah (and wisdom itself). She taught 70 languages to souls at the dawn of creation, a guiding, teaching, inspirer of the pursuit of wisdom. She is listed as possibly being Yefefiah or Iofiel and seems to share many comparisons with him.[4]"

The sort of claim like the above must be attributed to the author or text that made the claims.

Also it's written on the picture of this article: "Jophiel was said to be the Angel who cast Adam and Eve out of Paradise". By whom? Who said that? The claim must be attributed to the author, and if the claim has not enough weight, it shouldn't even be there. GreyWinterOwl (talk) 21:37, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm digging up my copy of Davidson's Dictionary now. Ian.thomson (talk) 22:17, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, the claim for cite #4 is part of the pseudepigraphal Revelation of Moses. Some occultist-cruft (for lack of a better term) has seeped into the article, I'll be chopping that stuff out. Ian.thomson (talk) 22:39, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
