Untitled[edit]

In the History section, there is a reference to the creation of the town "In 1881, during the American Revolution,". I'm not sure of the town's creation year (perhaps 1781), but I do know the American Revolution was 1775-1783. This information should be verified. 216.100.202.130 15:54, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Jamie M Hoffman[reply]

Date formed?[edit]

The history section states "The Town of Johnstown was formed in 1793 from the town of Caughnawaga". But what does "formed" mean? Other portions of the article indicate it was settled long before 1793. I cant find any source for the creation of a town named Caughnawaga - possibly it was an Indian Castle. 2602:304:CDA6:51B0:404D:B207:C774:EF75 (talk) 01:46, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"formed" means the town was created by the State of New York as a political entity. There was a settlement there before the town was formed, and that settlement (Johnstown) was within the town of Caughnawaga. See the article on Caughnawanga for more info. MB (talk) 15:07, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
