The origin of the name Peacocks Gallop[edit]

The Wikipedia page seems to have the wrong John Peacock as the originator of the name Peacocks Gallop.

It states Peacocks Gallop was named after John Jenkins Peacock, the father of John Thomas Peacock. However, the reference given is to the Christchurch City Libraries Christchurch Place Names PDF, which states it was named after John Thomas Peacock, the son and the subject of the Wikipedia article, not his father.

The Christchurch Place Names PDF states its source was the "News of the Day" from the Press on 13 January 1905. That article is online here: https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/CHP19050113.2.13 It quotes the Hon J T Peacock as saying "In the old days I used to gallop along that bit of the road to get over it as fast as possible, and it used to be known as 'Peacock's gallop.'"

Was this a mistake in the Wikipedia article or is there some other source that states Peacocks Gallop was named for John Jenkins Peacock rather than John Thomas Peacock? TeWaitere (talk) 04:56, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, interesting, User:TeWaitere. When I wrote the article, I'm pretty sure that the library website referred to Peacock Sr having given the locality its name. Please amend the article as the source seems to have been amended. Schwede 66 05:44, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
