This looks like his obituary, except that it's dated 1959, in the middle of his tenure in the Pennsylvania Senate... don't have access to view the link though. CanadianPaul 22:14, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The obit says he retired in 1958. That's when his son must have succeeded him. Also of note is that he may have been born in 1876 rather than 1881, his obit says he was 83 and the 1930 census shows him b. c. 1876. – Connormah (talk) 03:38, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
