Please note that the famous "Butterfly" leader in The Times (1 June 1967)did not indicate any sympathy for changes in the drug laws. Specifically, the leader implicitly accepted the status of cannabis as a "hard" drug classified on the same terms as heroin and cocaine. The leader did not object to the sentence of a year in prison passed against Keith Richards. The leader did assert that Mick Jagger, who was sentenced to three months in prison for possession of amphetamine (described as a "soft" drug) was hard done by, because he had putchased the drugs legally abroad and had them available on prescription in the UK. The leader asserted that there had been a miscarriage of justice in this instance, but it did not question the law itself.
