Why is this John Ackland any more famous than the other one, who I think was replaced, rather than disambiguated. Fronsdorf (talk) 20:49, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not an issue of "more famous" so much as "more notable". The other one was moved to (coach). There are a lot of occasions where the only reason someone is at a location is that they got there first, and in looking at their achievements and notability there's no intrinsic reason to justify it in the face of other possibilities. In trying to decide where to locate the 593 State parliamentarians from Western Australia (which have anything from 0 to 3 levels of disambiguation), I found several instances where the main name was being taken by someone where the WA politician was more notable. There were a substantial number which were precisely the other way around, so the WA politician would get disambiguated and the other one would stay. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC was the guide here, and I looked to stats.grok.se and the number of incoming links for guidance - most of which, in the other one's case, came from a single template.
