Comment[edit]

It was stated that Johann Christoph is the son of JS Bach's great uncle, and that therefore he is JS Bach's uncle - if the original statement is correct, then he is actually a first cousin once removed of Bach's - not an uncle (JS's great-grandfather is J. Christoph's grandfather)! Please can someone check this relationship! 195.194.199.50 08:39, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I subsequently note that there have been a LOT of changes regarding this relationship - however, I am now fairly sure that IF JC was the son of JS's great-uncle THEN they are DEFINITELY first cousins once removed - see the cousin chart in wikipedia if you want to verify this. Also the page for JC's son states that he was JS's second cousin - which reconfirms the relationship. 195.194.199.50 08:46, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK - a bit of research reveals the source of the confusion - there were TWO separate people called Johann Christoph Bach - one was JS Bach's uncle and the other was his first cousin once removed. You do the math! I don't know how to create a disambig page or anything like that, but I thought I'd better stick a notice up on the page to warn anyone off from doing any hasty reverts etc.! 195.194.199.50 09:10, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are at least eight (8) people with this name. The german wikipedia site shows this in the family tree. For the record, in relation to JS Bach - there is an uncle, cousin, older brother and nephews with this name. The date makes this the uncle to JS Bach's father. meatclerk 07:59, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know it gets very confusing since the family is so large and they have lots of overlap with names. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JBoothby (talkcontribs) 15:24, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article December 6 says his birth date is December 6. If correct, why is the birth date not given in this article? Kaltenmeyer (talk)
