Support strongly per WP:MUSICDAB, (MC) is never used to disambiguate and (rapper) is appropriate here. There is enough capital and symbolic disambiguation to differentiate Jme (rapper) from J-Me, though a hatnote may be necessary. Lazz _R 19:41, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rapper vs MC[edit]

I didn't see the requested move in time before it went through, but would just like to say that I'm strongly opposed to the article name being 'Jme (rapper)'. Grime MCs usually tend to reject the title of 'rapper' as grime was borne out of UK garage and the associated practice of MCing over mixed DJ sets. Jme himself publicly asked in 2015 that Wikipedia contributors don't describe him as a rapper. If 'Jme (MC)' is undesirable, 'Jme (musician)' could work equally well, and would also acknowledge his role as a prominent record producer in the grime scene. --ItsLuke (contribs) 10:42, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Jme (musician) → Jme – Jme is commonly referred to in lowercase and uppercase, this makes him the only topic on Wikipedia referred to as "Jme" (lowercase) as the others listed on the disambiguation page are uppercase (JME). Weak oppose. This looks very similar to my failed proposal to move United Parcel Service to UPS, which I withdrew. I don't think that page views alone should determine if a move is necessary, as the content and appeal to certain niches, would be a much better standard to go by. Given that a form of juvenile epilepsy can be referred to JME, as is the molecule editor, I would support maybe elevating him to the top of the page based on pageviews (such as phrasing JME as "most commonly referring to the rapper", but nothing more. Support per WP:NATDIS, MOS:TM / WP:TITLETM / MOS:ALLCAPS, and prior comments by 2601:8C:4001:DCB9:C1B4:21F:2F19:AA48. Scanning the cited sources, he may be referred to in the sources a bit more often as "JME" than as "Jme", but "Jme" is basically unambiguous and "JME" is not. Neither styling "JME" or "Jme" seems quite like standard English. However, "Jme" seems a little bit more standard in this case, since the term is derived by elision rather than being an initialism. Per 2601:8C:4001:DCB9:C1B4:21F:2F19:AA48, "JME" doesn't stand for anything; it is just all-caps formatting, which is undesirable for non-abbreviations. His legal name is Jamie Adenuga, not "John Michael Englehart" or similar. And "Jme" is what he uses for his Twitter feed, so it fits his self-identification. WP:NATDIS says it is OK to select "an alternative name that the subject is also commonly called in English reliable sources, albeit not as commonly as the preferred-but-ambiguous title". Also, there has been difficulty selecting the best disambiguation term; this move would solve that problem by simply removing the disambiguation term. InvadingInvader's opposition seems off-base since the proposal is to move the article to "Jme", not "JME". "JME" is ambiguous with the other mentioned subjects, but "Jme" is not. As for Anthony Appleyard's prior comment, I don't think we should worry too much about people using lowercase when looking for a topic that is properly uppercase, and the page views also show that the competing uppercase topics are not especially popular. —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 13:12, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
