Helpful intro[edit]

At present the lead section doesn’t provide any kind of overview, making this a particularly inaccessible article. It’d be good if the intro could establish the size and nature of the collection, where the collection is now (or what fraction of it is not lost), and possibly why the subject is notable. Bold face for title[edit]
