Untitled[edit]

Reverted for the same reasons as discussed at Talk:Olivia_Trinidad_Arias and User_talk:BrainyBroad. It's bad form to effectively delete an article without consensus. A merger or deletion should be proposed and discussed first. --kingboyk 10:15, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Jenny von Westphalen[edit]

  • Delete uh... what the hell? remove this propaganda! David Cruise 10:50, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Deletion is not a tool to win edit wars. —Cryptic (talk) 18:52, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Smerge and redirect to Karl Marx; she doesn't seem to have any notability outside of being his wife. Marrying someone notable does not in itself make you notable. —Cryptic (talk) 19:38, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • This afd nomination was orphaned. Listing now. —Crypticbot (operator) 18:55, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Monicasdude 19:13, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge/Redirect to Karl Marx. Being the wife of somebody notable does not automatically make her notable. I can see no other indication of notability on this page. — RJH 19:50, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, I do kinda believe in notability through osmosis. Like Stalin's grandkid :x. — Adrian~enwiki (talk) 20:21, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment... and yes, this is all building up to an article about my cat. He'll be notable once I've owned him long enough. Just you wait! — Adrian~enwiki (talk) 20:22, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge/redirect: per Cryptic. —Wknight94 (talk) 02:17, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I found learning more about his wife interesting enough to actually click the link, and to read it and this discussion. Why remove interesting information? —ChaosDMNS (talk) 11:12, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Letter[edit]

Here is a letter from the same date. I assume the liberties were taken by the translators--wild boar or teddy bear being idioms. In any case, this source should be used if that one is not cited. gren グレン 10:11, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

The image we are using says "no higher resolution available". I just PMed The Marx He Knew for PG and there is a higher resolution image in it--but it's cracked paint, etc. I just want to point this out of someone wants to salvage it. gren グレン 18:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Glad this was kept[edit]

I could have made an educated guess that this article would at one time have been nominated for deletion, and I see that it was in 2006. I am glad it was kept - she is quite a famous name. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 12:51, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why by her maiden name?[edit]

Isn't it more common to refer to her as 'Jenny Marx'? Didn't she adopt her husband's surname? I'm not sure if they even had any legal choice in the matter at the time.--84.238.136.52 (talk) 13:38, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No evidence for Baron/Freiherr title[edit]

The sources do not corroborate that the family or father had the title baron (or the corresponding title of freiherr). The Ludwig von Westphalen article and sources confirm that they belonged to the lower nobility (knights). The German WP article (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philipp_von_Westphalen) uses the title Edler for the recently ennobled grandfather Philipp Westphal i.e. Edler von Westphalen. Orphaned references in Jenny von Westphalen[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Jenny von Westphalen's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 18:00, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The reference to "Burke's landed gentry of Great Britain" is meaningless[edit]

The reference to Burke's landed gentry of Great Britain, page 617 is null and void. I checked it randomly, from archives found the internet, and it confirmed that the source isn't locatable and doesn't have any bearing. It is simply the same as referring to Encyclopædia Britannica page 716, if you understand what I'm saying. It will not do, to go into the genealogical history of Jenny von Westphalen with loose ends and unsubstantiated claims. Doctoral historian (talk) 18:57, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Facts on Jenny von Westphalens background[edit]

  • Born in Salzwedel, which was at her birth and presently a small town
  • Recently ennobled family. Noble family pedigrees are not only ranked by title, but very much by longevity of the ennoblement. When an ennoblement is in the grasp of living memory and as in the case her with grandfather Philipp Westphal, it is considered of recent origin. They not only belonged to the petty nobility, they where also a part of the part of the modern nobility who had acquired their rank through holding a high state office, (not of old chivalric family - i.e.Nobles of the Sword). Similar families where usually of bourgeoisie/merchant background.
  • Her mother Carolina Heubel wher non-noble, as many of her forefathers

All of the mentioned things are common knowledge in the biographies on Jenny von Westphalen or Karl Marx. So nothing out of the ordinary.Doctoral historian (talk) 19:20, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

She was not a descendant of George Wishart, but of George Wishart (moderator). George Wishart is not an ancestor of hers, but is from another, distant branch of the very numerous Wisharts. You can see this on the family tree. Another side of the family, are Campbell of Ardkinglas - she is descended from multiple branches of the Campbells. All this information is in her genealogy. For the rest, it's good information, but someone needs to fix the formatting of the sources.Avaya1 (talk) 19:46, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
