Edits of October 8-13, 2012[edit]

Full disclosure: I am a friend and supporter of Jefferson Smith. I use my real name to participate in Wikipedia.

This article was edited anonymously a few days ago by an unknown person who inserted a new section with a bolded headline that contained a somewhat sensationalized version of the facts of a fraternity party incident in 1993. When I learned of the edits I went into the article, reedited the new section to make it more neutral and keep it closer to the known facts as reported by the sources being cited, and un-bolded the headline.

I have also left a note about this episode on the WikiProject Oregon page.

I would like to preserve the neutrality of this page.

Thanks for the full disclosure. Other than the one editor of a few days ago, activity on this article does not call for edit protection (see the protection policy). I'll keep an eye on it and probably a few other Oregon editors will too, at least two of them are also admins. —EncMstr (talk) 06:48, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edits of November 4, 2012[edit]

Someone has reverted my edits of October 13 and described my edits as "whitewashing." I wish that person would engage in discussion about the edits here on the Talk page. I've explained myself. I'm particularly curious about this person's insistence on using an extra bold header (===) for that section of the page, instead of the standard header (==). I've also added information about Smith's legislative career.

A couple points of order (I'm not commenting, and don't expect to, on the phrasing of the section):
  • I agree with Vardavas (as I've stated to her offline), talk page discussion is the appropriate way to resolve a disagreement like this;
  • About the formatting -- the header you mention (with 3 equal signs) is quite standard, it is intended to indicate that the incident is a subsection of "Personal life". The fact that it comes across as bold is simply a reflection of how Wikipedia's formatting (CSS) is set up, and surely there is no intent to draw attention to the item through a bolder heading. (In addition, Carrite's revert of your edit appears to have been a simple revert, not new edit; and he was not the original author of that line. It's likely he didn't even notice the change in header priority.)
I'll leave it to others to determine how this item should be phrased, and what heading it belongs under, but I thought this clarification might help. -Pete (talk) 21:29, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
addendum:
  • According to the Wikipedia manual of style, the words "fraternity party incident" should not be capitalized in the header (or elsewhere). It is not a proper name. -Pete (talk) 21:37, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am an anonymous person, but I must say that this site has been sanitized too much to tell the real story behind the incident and Mr. Smith's attempts to cover it up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.53.53.243 (talk) 03:48, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Removing 2012 Mayoral Campaign details[edit]

Hotpotato75 removed several claims from the 2012 Portland Mayoral Campaign controversies section because "citations do not support claims." But that's simply not true. The citations clearly support the claims, though at least one of the links was broken. I updated the urls + access dates, so that shouldn't be a problem now.

All that said, I do think this section is possibly too detailed and could be trimmed back. Pinging other editors who have been active here: Sarahmirk and Ser Amantio di Nicolao. NASAvegas (talk) 15:55, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
